Up to chapter 9, 5 hours in. I can now see what people mean by DS2 being more action filled, it doesn't feel there are as many battles and even then they aren't quite has big as in DS2, it definitely adds and builds to the tension of not knowing when they will be a battle plus I feel more helpless than in DS2 combat wise. Even though I am playing on easy the feeling I get is only just under what I felt when playing DS2 hardcore and the stakes on that were much higher.
I also have noticed that the low-gravity sections aren't that great and have been somewhat annoying so that was a good improvement in DS2.

I finished DS in just over 7h30m. It certainly ramps up in the last couple of chapters and has mad not so confident for my impossible run.
It was interesting seeing the areas in a different light from DS2 and I wish I had played this first to get the full effect of returning to the Ishimura and not knowing the truth about Nicole. I didn't mind the back tracking it helped build the world and make it feel more than just corridors stuck together.
I did find it odd that Isaac never talked at all though.

The original Dead Space is brilliant, glad you enjoyed it Spec B).  I'd rate it as one of the best new IPs this gen (although it does have some pretty serious competition).  Here's hoping that the inevitable Dead Space 4 keeps the quality up :D.

I just beat the chapter 6 boss on Impossible. Literally I killed a tenti-blob, figuratively it was a giant sponge.

Gave 3 and the DLC a run through with Live(Miss shootbang) on normal.
  • Weapon Crafting: Its nice to be able to combine weapons, I ended up our play-through with a contact beam and a cross between a plasma(rail attachment) rifle and trip mine gun. I did miss the old weapons though and didn't like too much being limited to only 2 weapons but being able to customize your weapons mitigated it a bit.
  • Enemies: Seemed to have gotten into the energy drink fridge. I noticed immediately that they were quicker and alot more prone to jump attacking to the previous games. I found in the beginning instead of using the plasma cutter and dismembering limbs I preferred the submachine gun since they were on us so much quicker.
  • I didn't mind the enemies with guns too much. Had no issues with their first appearance it made sense and it gave the game a different start. Could've toned them down in the rest of the game though, only having a little skirmish here and there to change things up.
  • Optional missions: They were alright, they started to look familiar and feel samey though. The co-op only missions were a nice look into Carver's background.
  • DLC: Yep I would say if your interested in the story in the slightest then at least watch the cut scenes on youtube. As it was said its more or less the true ending. I think it would've been really cool if it the game ended the same but after the credits awakened started rather than being DLC.
All up with the optional missions its definitely a longer game doubling the play-through time of the others. I would guess that skipping the optional missions would brings its time more inline with the others.

What I feel is the biggest negative in this game to me is the way the enemies now react. They are a lot quicker and jumpy when scorpions and the pack were the only real quick enemies in the previous ones. Trying to play it like the previous 2 in the beginning didn't work for me wasn't until I switched away from the plasma cutter to the sub-machine gun and then assault rifle that the death count went down.

All in all Dead Space 3 is a good game it was enjoyable for the most part but its just not that good of a "Dead Space" game.

Shame about the Plasma Cutter in 3 that was the go to weapon in the other ones.....

Yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed it too. The co-op is fun and I got scared during the moments I played solo for a bit, lol. It was definitely more action-y with enemies rushing at us most of the time compared to the Dead Space 2 (which I only watched my brother play), but the customisation options were nice to play around with :D.

Sounds like a lot of fun :D.  It deffo didn't look as "Dead Spacey" as the first two, with more of an action twist, but one of the SPT lads rationalised it as that by the time they were up to the third game, they'd kind of know they had a fight on their hands, so it was sensible it headed down that path.

I finished this on a Classic Mode run (Solo + Hard + Blueprints Only) and I think I'm a little braver now, hehe. I stuck with the Plasma Cutter and Contact Beam (when I had enough resources to make one) for most of the game, then the enemies became pretty spongey towards the end so I ended up making a Force Gun for the last couple of chapters.

I really liked having a lot more usage for Stasis and really needing to attack the limbs in Classic Mode since resources were much more scarce than in the previous Standard Normal playthrough with Spec. Already there was a huge difference with how much ammo and health I could find anywhere in the beginning, so I had to worry about conserving the resources for rig upgrades and new weapons and then making more consumables to survive, which made everything much more intense.

The Single Player eventually still felt like more action and getting swarmed quickly than actual scares though. Especially against other humans or when I could run back or around and wait for enemies to come and then pick them off. But some parts were still pretty scary and nerve-racking (to me at least) :D.

Nice one Live :D.  It does sound like a great game, will be interesting to see whether they stick with the coop/action angle or head back to a more single-player/suspense focus down the track.

Bought The Art of Dead Space (Enhanced Digital Edition) on iTunes for $9.99

Negatives are a noticeable amount of words are joined together, missing a space between them which does hurt ease of reading a bit. Also some of the images with text can be hard to read as zooming doesn't help since it just makes the image text blurred.

Rest is all good. I'm enjoying seeing the reasoning behind the designs, the progression of them through to the final design as well as the designs that didn't make it.

The Enhanced Digital features are cool taking advantage of the digital format, the videos are good quality, well placed in the pages they are in, the additional galleries are nice additions as well giving even more insight to designs.
