"Dead Space 3 will launch with nearly a dozen slices of DLC, designed to help players accrue in-game loot faster (with the scavenger bots) and kit out hero Isaac Clarke with new weapons and suits". There will be 11 DLC Packs in total to purchase from launch (not including the expected Story DLC) that are separate from the micro-transactions, and also includes an Online Pass for people who haven't bought the game brand new.

The details are from a Eurogamer article, with the expected US pricing on the DLC's. The exclusive Interview/Gameplay Vid in the article is pretty good though, talking a bit more about the Solo experience, the Dead Space lore and shows some of parts that are definitely reminiscent of Dead Space 2's atmosphere.

Been looking at some of the first reviews to come out.. F*ck this doesn't look good. :(

We may have to add Visceral to the list of devs that can't be trusted with their own franchises. *Cough* Bioware *Cough*

What the f*ck is wrong with devs these days? Have they no clue? I'm about to give up on caring about franchises. They're only going to screw you over. :silly:

I feel lied to. I was told it was going to be just like the other games. Lies.

EA has announced the game's first DLC expansion, called Awakened.

"In Dead Space 3 Awakened, gamers will experience some of the most disturbing content they have ever seen in a Dead Space game. They are going to love it," said Visceral Games boss Steve Papoutsis.
Meanwhile, EA adds that the DLC will feature the franchise's "darkest chapters as the Necromorph battles become even more gruesome and terrifying than ever before."

Awakened launches in March for $9.99.

Edit:

IGN review 7.8

GOOD
Dead Space 3 has some glaring problems, but the combat and the stunning presentation make it well worth playing.
  • +Incredibly realized world
  • +Fantastic sound design
  • +Tight, unique combat
  • –Forced story
  • –Too many errands, deja vu moments

I've lost faith as well. I won't be buying this game, it's sad to say.

Going to wait for a price drop on this one. I still want it, and from what I hear its actually good (think its about 80 on Meta for what that's worth) - what bad things have you been hearing Aro?

- It's not a Dead Space game
- Not really a horror/survival game anymore
- Too much an action game (set pieces fall flat)
- Less tension
- Repetitive
- forced, complicated story

Basically the opposite of everything I liked about the first two.

So what I feared has happened? Ugh.. I'll still play it to finish the trilogy, it just wont be any time soon.

Pretty much. I'm not going to trust devs anymore or get excited for games. It only ends badly. Three franchises and counting.

Dead Space 4 Canned (Rumour)

Quote

EA has ceased development on Dead Space 4 and effectively axed the series following lower than anticipated sales of Dead Space 3, VideoGamer.com has learned.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source familiar with the unannounced project told VideoGamer.com that Dead Space 4 had been in pre-production at Visceral Games, with a small team at Visceral Montreal allegedly tasked with developing prototypes and mock-ups for the title, and collaborating on ideas for the game's narrative.

However, the project was cancelled after Dead Space 3 failed to meet its sales targets, our source claims, telling us that EA executives visited Visceral Montreal last month to inform staff that the project had been terminated and announce details of the company's restructuring.

Visceral Montreal is rumoured to have closed following the restructuring.

Though EA had yet to announce Dead Space 4, Dead Space 3's cliffhanger ending suggested that a fourth game had been planned by the publisher.

As well as discussing Dead Space 4's alleged cancellation, our source also gave us further insight into Dead Space 3's development, telling us that the game was almost cancelled partway through its development, and saw continuous cuts made to its budget throughout production.

Weapon-specific ammo was allegedly switched for generic ammo late in development, too, as a method for shoehorning in the game's controversial micro-transactions.

EA also advised Visceral that Dead Space 3 needed to appeal to a wider audience than the series' previous two titles, our source added, and the studio was reportedly told to focus on action over horror in an effort to make the game feel more like BioWare's Mass Effect.

Our source's comments tally with those made previously by EA.

Last year, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau suggested that Dead Space 3 would need to sell around five million copies in order for the series to survive.

"In general we're thinking about how we make this a more broadly appealing franchise," Gibeau told CVG, "because ultimately you need to get to audience sizes of around five million to really continue to invest in an IP like Dead Space.

"Anything less than that and it becomes quite difficult financially given how expensive it is to make games and market them."

Though sales figures for the game have yet to be officially released, the game's first week sales in the UK were down 26.6 per cent on the game's predecessor Dead Space 2.

In the weeks following its release, Dead Space 3 has gradually slipped further down the charts. The game currently sits at no.8, placing behind last year's Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Far Cry 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

EA announced plans to restructure its Los Angeles and Montreal studios in February, stating that though "many employees are being retrained for new positions... a small number will be released".

A former Visceral Montreal employee claims to have told Game Informer that "the entire studio has been laid off".

EA told VideoGamer.com that it does not comment on rumour or speculation when contacted about Dead Space 4's alleged cancellation.

No words, if true, what the hell did EA expect. I am glad if they pull this shit with Insomniac they can just finish the game and leave.

What...The...F*ck!

Better not be true. What the f*ck EA?! The game hasn't been out that long, jeez. Not everything can sell 5mil in 2 days, a la COD.

Visceral better not be going under.

It's about the money Lebowski!

Read an interesting comment that said -"Dead Spaces' failure isn’t about microtransactions, it’s about bloated publishers killing middle-tier games and needing every game to be huge.”

I sure hope this isn't true, but if it is then it's just another lesson in the course of 'popular IP are popular for a reason - when you substantially change them, you alienate your fans' 101.  Which they could have learned from Forza Horizon, SOCOM 4, KZ3, Need for Speed: Shift, and a bunch of other titles.  It's almost as if they want to destroy the IP.  As for his issue over the cost of making games, there are different cost structures for making games, it just seems that EA aren't aware of them.  Unfortunately, this kind of view means the only way we'll ever see something like Mirror's Edge 2 is if DICE can find a way to do it on the cheap.

Regardless of whether true or not, EA seem to only be interested in really expensive games that sell lots and lots of titles.  Seems odd to me - why wouldn't you also want some lower risk, lower cost bets in your stable.  Going with the 'go large or go home' strategy is a good way of quickly going out of business if a few bets go the wrong way (and like Movies, almost every game is a bit of a gamble).

"Flat-out not true",  reaffirms that Visceral Montreal is alive and well.
"While we have not announced sales for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and the franchise remains an important IP to EA."

Good if true, hopefully EA will listen more if it is so important.

Also wonder if we can get a title change to "Dead Space 3" and lose the demo bit.

Lol, I've been trying to move this to the 'News' section but it's got too much DS3 discussion to be a simple demo announcement so I changed it back. I'll just split it up now :)

This is good. Even though it's not true, hopefully it demonstrates to EA how people feel about middle-tier titles and their place in the industry.

I haven't read too deeply into it - but this I guess is what happens when you go against what the fans want... survival horror. Similar situation to Resident Evil.

Just finished 'Awakened' Not worth $15, maybe $10. Though it is pretty good and it perfectly sets up Dead Space 4.

Sh*t just got real.

Started playing DS1, only finished the first 2 chapters but I am enjoying travelling through and recognising the areas so far from the revisit in DS2.
