Titanfall, the game FPS gamers have been drooling over since it's conception is finally available to own on Xbox One and Windows PC (and will be out soon on Xbox 360). Published by Electronic Arts and developed by Respawn, Titanfall has been on gamer's must-play lists since it's unveiling at E3 2013.
In case you're unfamiliar, Titanfall has been made by the development team responsible for arguably the best FPS game of all time, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare! Fans of the Call of Duty franchise will be delighted to find that the standard gun play of the game feels very much like Call of Duty, but it's far more than 'Call of Duty in the future', as Titanfall brings some absolutely game changing differences:
- Titans - these are massive mechwarrior type robots the player can call in and pilot after approximately 4 minutes from spawning, or more quickly if objectives are taken or kills earned.
- Mobility - it's possible to leap onto a horizontal surface and run along it's length, it's also possibly to scale almost any building using mantle and double jumping techniques, and even jump onto a wall and hang there in wait for your enemy.
- Dedicated servers - this is a biggy for any online experience. Respawn Entertainment and Microsoft have worked closely to provide servers right in Sydney to ensure Au/NZ can experience the game at its best.
- Bots - AI players in the form of Grunts and Spectres fill the map, ensuring that every corner is being contested and there's no end of things to either shoot at, or by shot by.
You may feel put off by the prospect of fighting against robots several stories tall, but every player spawns with an anti-titan heavy weapon. If this isn't enough though, you're always on a countdown to call in your own Titan which you can choose to pilot yourself, or set to an automated state where it will either follow you about or defend the area where it landed.
Titanfall has really done an incredible amount to try and refresh the tired FPS genre, but at the same time it has maintained all the essentials: custom classes, attractive maps, weapon variety and attachments, player point and level progression, but best of all near perfect hit registration.
