The Crew is a revolutionary action-driving game developed exclusively for next-gen consoles. It takes you and your friends on a reckless ride inside a massive, open-world recreation of the United States.

Take part in a relentless ride to move up the ranks of the 510s, a gang grown around Detroit's illegal street racing scene – making a rep for yourself on the underground-racing scene and ultimately taking down their activities all across the United States.

Maneuver through the bustling streets of New York City to lose the cops, cruise down sunny Miami Beach or trek through the breathtaking plateaus of Monument Valley. Each locale comes with its own set of surprises and driving challenges to master. On your journey you will encounter other players on the road – all potentially worthy companions to crew up with, or future rivals to compete against.

Publisher(s): Ubisoft

Ubisoft Reflections Ltd. did Driver:SF which was one of my rare whim buys and I enjoyed that immensely so hopefully they will bring a bit of its DNA along.

Edit:

Watched video love the variety of cars, upgrades and the scale of it. Looks good fun.

Looks might fine B).  Reckon the next-gen line-up is one of the best yet, particularly at this stage!

A bit surprised but this is always-online, but you can play solo.

I think Ubi are going big on the always-online angle.  Big shame of this approach, of course, is that once the servers go down, that's it.  No-one will be able to go back to The Crew or The Division in 15 years time to appreciate how good it was, but we'll still be able to replay MGS1.  That's a whole 'nother debate though.  Hopefully they do something decent to make it worth it in The Crew :D.

Yes I feel the same way with the Crew being such a massive space of driving area it would be good to just sit down and cruise around.

I also hope there is a good benefit other that seamless multiplayer and not some lame features to try and justify it like with Heroes VI.
Plus they have had sever troubles, AC2 comes to mind with that when it was still always-online, and the patching it out of several of their PC games.

Aye - my punt is that initially they'll be a big move to always-on experiences early in the gen, then once there's been a few bloopers (almost every always-on non-MMO experience to-date has had trouble, there's bound to be some things go wrong) they'll be a bit more sensible and only have it for games that need it.

So it now seems the The Crew will have an offline option.

Haha, that didn't take long ;).  Ubi have got a core of very online-oriented people (their PC DRM a few years back was "ahead of its time" in all the wrong ways), I think that perhaps they sometimes get a little carried away and forget maybe everyone isn't like them.  Not that you can't or shouldn't have always-online games, of course :D.

This has been delayed from its Q1 2014 release to a Q3 release (Jul 1-Sep 30, 2014).

Was hoping to pick this up when I got a PS4 early next year.

It's a good question - wouldn't be surprised if one or two more don't get pushed back (Drive Club's an early favourite, from CAD's rumours ;)).

Nope no offline mode, just read it form a Dev of here.

Which made me wonder what I read to get that impression that it had gone.
I went searching and found this.

Quote

Speaking to VG24/7, The Crew's creative director Julian Gerighty assured race fans that whilst connected play is probably the best way to experience the game, you'll always have the option to go offline and play the full single player campaign solo if you feel like it, or indeed if none of your preferred friends are currently online and available.

There is no mention of "offline" in the referenced article.

Apologies Axe, I think I was a bit too eager for there to be an offline mode.

Ahh, oh well.  I don't mind if it's designed to be always-online, Planetside 2 wouldn't make sense with an offline mode, but it does sound like the kind of game that could easily do both (unlike Planetside 2).  Thanks for the update :D.

They sell it like WoW, but even when you're solo-ing in WoW, you're in a server with lots of other players - they need to make it clear this is what's happening here, and that we're not just being locked out of single-player content if we have dodgy internet connections because of some arbitrary design decision.

The crew heading to Xbox 360

Quote

Today, Ubisoft® announced that The Crew™ is coming on November 11th to Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, in addition to Xbox One, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Windows PC. Named “Best Racing Game” of E3 2014 by the Game Critics, The Crew is a revolutionary action-driving MMO that takes gamers on a wild ride throughout a massive open world recreation of the United States, full with exciting challenges and populated by other real players.

“It’s Ubisoft’s objective to continue to meet the needs of consumers who have not yet made the move to the new console generation,” said Geoffroy Sardin, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Ubisoft. “The Crew was originally built for the new generation of consoles, but we have always had a desire to make it accessible to as many people as possible. We’re excited to bring The Crew’s same core features, massive scope, mission variety, and overall driving experience to Xbox 360 players.”

Asobo Studio is leading development of The Crew for Xbox 360 with support from the teams at Ivory Tower, Ubisoft Reflections and Ubisoft Shanghai.

Ubisoft announced that after the closed beta on PC that took place in July and will resume again on August 25th, a limited number of players will be invited to participate in a closed beta for Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 starting in late September. Exact dates and further details on this closed beta period will be communicated at a later time.
