Axe - have you had a chance to play Homeworld yet? I ended up getting it on the weekend and just had a little bit of a play with it. Completely forgotten how to play it (I guess it's been a very long time). So good in ultra widescreen... very 'cinematic'.

Sorry, completely missed this post, must have been the post-Christmas haze, wasn't ignoring you, just oblivious :).

Got:

Rainbow Six
Rainbow Six 3
Rainbox Six Las Vegas
Rainbox Six Las Vegas 2
Ghost Recon
Ghost Recon Future Soldier
Splinter Cell
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Splinter Cell Conviction
Splinter Cell Blacklist

All for $10 or $14 or whatever AU. Still a cracker deal! Eat that PS! lol

Yeah - I remember Saints saying that. To be honest, I've played most of the games anyway, but I'll always go back and play the Splinter Cell games (I'm a stealth tragic). Future Solider I haven't and I think I haven't played Vegas 2 either, might have even skipped the first one as well, can't remember. Definitely played all the Splinter Cells though.

Still though - can't complain for that money. Only thing I'm complaining about is UPlay. lol

I used to love Rainbow six/Rogue Spear but haven't really played any of the installments since then. How is the series at this point?

I haven't played the one that's out now... it looks good. Aro and Live seem to be the only ones playing it around here atm so probably best to ask them.

Deffo give the two Vegas games a play, they were great back in their day, and given how few tactical FPS games we get, I can't think of anything that's surpassed them gameplay-wise in SP at least.  I enjoyed the Splinter Cells as well and Graph and Saintsy are spot on when they talk up GRFS - a good deal indeed Clowny :D.

Sniper Elite games - good? There's a deal on Steam, that's all. Number 2 sounds good as it's set in WW2 - should I just get that for US$6 rather than getting all 3?

I haven't gotten around to playing them, but what I've heard is that they were solid, and a little bit different.  Games only get cheaper over time, so if not sure getting one now and others later isn't a bad way to go about it.

No worries - will get it then. It looks like it has a bit of stealth in it as well... and I feel like a bit of WW2. Funny 10 (or so) years ago, I probably would have said the opposite.

As said - ended up getting it. Gotta wrap up a few things before I will start downloading it. Will give it a little whirl tonight. Also gave GRFS a spin earlier today and really enjoyed it. Seems like it'll be a great game (thus far).

Splinter Cell (original) I had a small go of yesterday. My first game I had some troubles with (flickering mainly) but it was quickly rectified by a guide - basically just changing some ini files which was nothing unusual (for me). Also (by the looks of things) it doesn't have controller support but the kb/m controls felt good. I guess I could do a search online for that as well but it doesn't really phase me all that much.

gonna have to watch that vid tonight.

xcom 2 is really growing on me, but it's in no way worthy of the reviews it has received.  the game is so unbalanced it's not funny & the story is still pretty wishy washy.

Glad to hear it's growing on you at least :).  Looking forward to playing it when they sort out the control options (I read on the 2K forums that not only did it not have normal gamepad support, mouse/kb support could be a bit iffy as well!)

It's surprising the performance, optimization, controller problems etc that Xcom 2 is having. What hope does the PC platform have if a large dedicated release can't get things like this right. I thought this was exactly not supposed to happen with it being such a high profile title. Glad I didn't pick it up on release.

Aye, fully agree - Paradox titles are pretty much the only games I pick up at launch.  The others, I let the devs get them sorted before giving them a run - have a much better experience that way.

not just a high profile title, but a sequel that's not so different to the (polished) original.

played more last night, really enjoying it but a bit on the unbalanced stuff i mentioned;

- had a round v 22 aliens using my squad of 6.  it included a massive robot/mech warrior thing.  passed the round flawless with nobody even being grazed

- had a round where our ship was under attack, ended up being v 29 aliens & i had a squad of 9.  as above not a single person was injured

in adding new things they've really lost a ton of balance & actually removed a lot of tactics & thinking.  early in the game it was the other way round with it being a tad on the difficult side, but now with explosives in particular it's too easy.  that's without a ton of the other abilities at disposal which can lead to your 1 character on their 1 turn attacking at least 3 times, maybe 4.  it's almost like call of duty adding kill streaks etc where something that was such a positive ended up breaking the game.  i guess it will make me look forward to replaying divinity & wasteland more though & appreciate them more as both those games are just brilliant.
