Bought Witcher 2 on that Steam Sale for 2.99 USD. Don't know if I'll go back an play it though... I just can't seem to commit to big games anymore, I always lose interest or something else grabs my attention. Used to love playing massive games back in the day. Don't know what's changed.

Possibly - it's definitely hard to decide which game to play.

that's great news, i knew they were doing it with those updates on the consoles, but i'd never before seen a mention of it for pc etc.  it's too early for me to replay it now, but it's on my replay list with dark souls & dark souls 2 that's for sure.

speaking of replays, i'm on a replay replay of sorts in dirt 3.  have it on ps3, played it on pc when it was still full of cancer (games for windows live) but yesterday started playing it now it's been remade for steam.  i'm really enjoying it again, still can't be bothered with the gymkhana stuff though which is a shame as i had completed all those i'd done to the highest level but now just getting whatever score gets me past them.  so annoying you can't avoid or opt out of them !!!

Humble Store Spring Sale! is on, its going for two weeks, has a bunch of different sale from what I can see. A half daily and daily game as well as a bunch of games on 2 and 3 day sales going be the sale counters. I guess its the same as a steam sale if that sale timer of the game lasts till the end of the sale hold off unless you wouldn't care about paying extra if it goes cheaper.

Prices are so so, some good or usual prices but others not as good as they have been.

For the next 24 hours I'm sure Axe would give thumbs up for the Paradox Grand Strategy Collection for $20 if your into those types of games. ;)

Axe most definitely would recommend that pack for strategy fans (although both Vicky 2 and HoI 3 really need their two (A House Divided/Heart of Darkness for Vicky 2)/three (Semper Fi, For the Motherland and Their Finest Hour) expansions as well to play, so if getting them for them, factor the cost of that into the mix.  EU4 and CK2 are just fine as they are at launch (and better in many ways if you're new to these games, as the DLCs extend the mechanics, so their a bit easier to get into without the DLC, then you get the DLC to deepen 'em further once you've got the hang of the base game.

Nice spotting Spec B).

I'm sure Graph would approve of 50 per cent off Wasteland 2 (29.99) as well, and there's a bunch of Bethesda deals as well (although some are better than others, as is always the case with sales).

Grabbed Tropico 4 Collectors Bundle DLC from Humble Bundle for just over $5AU, only mentions 7 DLC on the Humble page but unlocked all the DLC when I activated it on steam, activates as this bundle.
Been interested in it since I enjoyed 3 and the demo of 4 ran better than 3 on my PC way bakc when I tried it. Only thing that held me off was the Kalypso account business but adding a line to a file makes it skip the process and everything.

Also for today Dirt Rally is $26.24 on GMG VIP section you have to login to see it. Doesn't show up for me any-more so I guess it expired.

Edit:
Also the new Humble Bundle is a Paradox one

Cheers for the news Spec, and enjoy Tropico 4 :).  If they hadn't have just released 5, I'd have gone for it (random thought - I've played a lot of Tropico 1 and 3, and only a little of 2 and don't plan to play any of 4, but hope to play a lot of 5 - for some reason I only go for odd-numbered Tropicos - I guess that makes me odd and you even Spec? :)).

VR glasses to me are just a wii nunchuck or ps move, just another thing that seems cool until you've used it.

any one seen the glasses ms are working on ?  they appear to use holograms projected onto the lenses, so the world around you is real, but they can augment it by adding to holograms.  another thing that seems cool but will probably just be a novelty in the end.

Those specs are pretty hefty - should guarantee a decent result (short of not getting a good framerate with the wrong video card or the like), but narrows the audience considerably, at least in the short term, but it will hopefully mean some pretty nice results for those that can run it :.

I definitely think VR will be a niche thing, but for things like flight or space sims, it has a huge amount of potential. It's kind timed well that VR's coming back into vogue at the same time as space sims, as games like Assassin's Creed or CoD are far less VR-friendly.

I don't know about that - while they're not going to replace the conventional ways of playing games, they're going to offer new types of games we've never seen before. They'll also work great with flight and racing games. FPS's, third person stuff - definitely not.

i can't ever see them overcoming the discomfort of actually wearing/using them, not without actually having an entire room as the VR screen rather than a pair of glasses.  i used the oculus at eb expo, put in a ton of time with it just because it was there & it was really kinda meh, the effect i felt was very similar to that of my kids 3DS which they play with the 3D bit turned off (as it's bad for their eyes, written on the box not to use it lolol).  we also have VR apps & glasses for our phones, great for a lark but would never commit to a 2 or 3 hour gaming session using any of this tech.

witcher 3/cd projekt is copping a ton more flak off the back of its anti-competitive key retailing.  now it's for admitting they've downgraded the textures of the final pc version to those of the ps4/x1.  will be interesting to watch how this plays out as it's not the first game this has occurred with & it's generally down to sony/microsoft having paid big bucks in a backroom deal.  wonder if it'll also downgrade their pc system requirements which are currently well beyond that of the equivalent power of a console.

Argh... My opinion is it was dumb with Watch Dogs and it's dumb now. No actual ironclad proof has EVER surfaced from any of these things and the requirements are already huge. Expecting a video released 3-5 years before release to be the same and then being upset when it isn't is just not healthy. Some genius found the "wondrous e3" effects for Watch Dogs and put it out as a mod, I checked it out and it was absolutely horrible as an actual experience to play the game. Great to simulate the effect of having absolutely no vision whatsoever past a few meters due to the horrendous depth of field.

A developer is not being dishonest when they're not using that exact particle effect from a pre pre pre alpha build. The fact is an actual workable game needs to be released which is very different to a trailer even running "in engine" in a controlled environment.

The "proof" out there for Witcher specifically is a joke because they're comparing say 3 year old footage to another trailer to another trailer, or game demo, or trailer to ps4, or take your fucking pick from complications. Do not have a positive view of the "downgrade" angle at all. end rant.
