wasn't the ultra textures, was the sharpening set to come as an option (the whole debacle has been that there are no 'ultra textures', the game files are the same for all platforms, hence all the backlash).

Had an introductory session with Witcher this morning, Playing with settings (which there definitely is a lot of to play with, had a better time setting it up than GTAV which was considered a great pc port by most) and seeing all the tutorials.
There's already a Nvidia guide which helped http://www.geforce.c...-tweaking-guide

I for one am impressed. Great options in terms of the visuals after all the drama as well. One of the few games that what they set out to achieve seems to still be there on release. Solved a small Arson case in the first village, very, very cool. Investigation like the batman games and small parts of Witcher 2 but more organic.

Although I was kidding - if you have Titan X's running in SLI (yes, that's 3K worth of GPUs) and HairWorks switched to all... at 4K (and settings on max) you'll be getting 45FPS according to their performance charts.

Yeah wasn't a fan of the earlier version of this tech in Tomb Raider either. Such beautiful shiny hair while traversing the muddy regional areas.

think i'll grab W3 soon as i finish dirt 3.  i know it's a game i'll enjoy so stuff it.

not sure what poor-formance i'll achieve, here's the MINIMUM recommended specs compared to mine:

OS:64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
yep, got win 7 64 bit

Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 940
i've got the 4440 which is massively better than the X4 940, but extremely similar in performance to the 2500k, but the 2500k has about a 10% higher clock speed & also the ability to overclock, could spell trouble for me :S  it's really odd that the X4 940 is even compared to the 2500k in these specs as they're simply not on par.

Memory: 6GB RAM
phew, i was sweating there, I HAVE RAMS IN MY PADDOCK, 8 OF 'EM lol.

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
well once again, i'm only just scraping in, i have a 660, it's the msi oc one that's 'supposedly' the best 660 that i've overclocked further.  but even say at a over the top 10% gain that's still only a couple of frames in reality.

DirectX: Version 11
whatever this is i hope it's free or can be pirated =P

Haha, don't worry, Steam'll (or presumably GMG, or what-have-you) drop the latest version of DirectX when you install, but I'd be very, very surprised if you weren't on 11 already :).

As for the rest, I'd be surprised if you had trouble - these days minimum specs seem to be 'minimum to enjoy a reasonable experience', unlike back in the 90s, when minimum specs were 'you'll get to play at 5fps'.  Ahhh, the 90s :).

So by reading this (below linked) article - it seems like it's the dynamic lighting system that was overhauled... which was my initial guess. Also the texture sizes downscaled (not necessarily totally different as Graph had said).

There are patches incoming which will allow further graphical changes via the ini files. e.g.  You will be able to tweak grass and vegetation density, post-processing effects such as sharpening, and draw distances.

I'd still like to see higher res textures (as I'd said previously) but from what I'd played it looked bloody great...

also sounds like they did change the texture sizes as the systems couldn't handle it while he was horseback.

either way it's still good to see that the game is one that'll probably look & run better on future systems than any current one, seems to have that headroom in its demands.

As I said, they've just downscaled them... not necessarily changed them completely. My PC is running the game on ultra (3440 x 1440) without a hitch so unsure how much headroom I have to start adding more shit to it. I guess it'd be a tweaking game of just testing things out.

Yeah - I'm yet to play Shadow of Modor / Bloodborne as well... W3 has priority over everything though (for me). As Graph said, W2 is super cheap most of the time - I recently got the PC version for US$2.99.
