What level was it Axe (where you couldn't get through) - was it the Super Nova level? I just got through it.

Can't remember the name, was where you meet a new race/species for the first time, maybe in a nebula?  Lots of little ships that swarmed me into submission.  Hope you gave 'em hell :).

I know that one - that was pretty easy and early in the game (where that ship comes up and talks to you and tells you that you're going to die unless you join them?).

If it is - I actually thought it might have been another one where you have to follow a certain path otherwise your ships explode (which is around 2/3rds through as you said).

To be honest, I haven't found the game all that difficult - sure, there's moments that you have to do it 2 or 3 times but other than that I've had no major problems.

I'm on the last mission now but I think I'll save it for tomorrow.

Picked up Destiny from the sales going on right now, finally a price I was happy to pay for The Taken King. Happy to play with others if anyone is still kicking around on Destiny.

I think it's mission 8 or 9, can't remember which now - I found it pretty straightforward up until then, but then hit a wall hard.  Apparently, the difficulty curve is related to the size of your fleet, so if you build up a larger fleet the game becomes a good deal more difficult, above and beyond the size of the fleet you've built up (at least according to what I found on the web), and like any good strategy gamer I was maximising my resources to build up a large fleet, so may have been my own worst enemy.  I'm also not as sharp as I used to be, so tend to find things more difficult than I did as well.  Suspect a combination of both factors, as most strategy games, and even RTS-style games like Homeworld, I find fairly straightforward.

About to have a break from Rule the Waves (but I will go back to it - once you've tasted those sweet, sweet graphics nothing else compares :D) to play some Cities Skylines with the new (by my standards, was released a few months ago :P) expansion :).

I was mainly using the Salvage Corvettes to steal the enemies bigger ships (at least 1 per level, sometimes up to 5). That's how I built up my fleet. But yeah - didn't know it upped the difficulty. This last level (I'm on) I've got over 50,000 RUs (resource units) so I'm just spam building stuff now, mainly fighters as they're quick to produce. Last level is tough as btw.

Ended up getting Papers Please... tried it out and it's good and definitely original. Wouldn't say it's brilliant though (just yet) - maybe it's the originality that makes it so highly regarded. I can see that it'll be addictive.

That's my initial thoughts - will play it more no doubt.

Look forward to hearing more :).  I've definitely heard a lot about it (and it's on my 'at some stage' list) so curious to hear your thoughts once you've had a bit more time with it B).

i haven't played anything in almost a week, hard reset looks great, incorporates some great ideas, but dare i say it's too difficult without being clever (ie. harder equals just more enemies that swarm you) & it's just too repetitive.  going to try & go back to it as it can't be too much longer, but the urge just isn't there.

Good luck, but don't force it - it's not like you don't have anything else to play :).

Finished my most recent City (well, played enough to be happy, you're never really finished, per se), and moving onto War in the East (about the conflict between the Soviet Union and Germany during WW2, turn-based strategy, thrill-a-minute stuff :P).  Cities: Skylines looks very nice with the day/night cycle in After Dark, will post a couple of shots in the screenshot thread.

Really enjoying GRFS!! It's made of good stuff. Didn't download Elite Sniper 2 - got sidetracked and trying to focus on one (big) game at a time. Still gotta do the last mission in Homeworld as well, then move onto 2. Also been playing Papers Please which gets better the more you play it and deeper you go. Did put that on easy mode though. Also keep dipping in and out of FTL - best fucking game ever!!

how's the weapon customisation on future soldier, i hope they bring it all to the next instalment which is open world, will be nuts !!!

started playing the evil within, it is as i'd expected (did play it at eb expo so had a sneak peak).  reminds me tons of a resident evil type universe, but with gameplay extremely similar to last of us in terms of the steal levels from LoU.

Haven't looked at the weapon customisation - don't really care for that type of stuff. As long as the gun doesn't back fire or shoot tampons, whatever they give me will do.

What I do like however is that it gives you a new gadget to play with every mission. Still early days though.

You really should. You can turn an M60 into a slightly obese and better version of the P90 xD.
Spent more time customizing my weapons than playing most of the time. Coming up with all sorts of weird combos. Tried using a different one each level but i was always drawn to my Mk14.
Can't see why they'd remove this from Wildlands, would be a terrible move for them to.

Anyways i've gone back and got my Ps1 out. Markets nearby have a new shop that sells PS1 games (Among other old school systems/games) so reliving my childhood games is nice lol.
Playing the Die hard trilogy atm, brings back the memories.

That game was (is!) great :).  I've still got a PS2 for the PS1 backwards compatibility as much as for the PS1 games, and a bunch of old PS1 games that I should play more, might have to pull it out again sometime soon :).  Diehard Trilogy is deffo in the collection.  Don't have a light gun any more though (because they don't work with new TVs, and holding onto a CRT TV just to play light gun games seemed a bit OTT, lol) :(.  Enjoy :D.

War in the East seems very good - quite deep, while the units you move around on map are at the brigade/regiment or higher, it tracks stuff down to individual tanks/artillery pieces/machine guns/rifle squads, and has a very deep logistics and production system (which I don't fully understand yet, by some margin).  It's well designed in that you can initially get away with just moving units around in short scenarios without really knowing what you're doing while you learn all that stuff.

I loved Die Hard trilogy when it was released haha. Dont think I have my copy anymore though.

I've been having a lot of fun with Assassin's Creed Syndicate. It's been pretty with irregular Ass Creed but I think this is my favourite one since 2. The period is fantastic and everything is just a bit more cohesive and better paced.

I think someone else around here said the same thing so I'll definitely add it to the list of games to buy (when it's a reasonable price). I really enjoyed the pirate one they did, that was the last one I played. Did skip a lot of them before that though.

Yeah I loved Black Flag too, mostly for the ship exploration and combat I think and the crew singing the sea shanties for you lol.

I got Syndicate for a pretty good price at an EB, same price as the base game at $68 but it was a special edition with the soundtrack and an art book so I was pretty happy with that.

up to chapter 6 of the evil within, i think it has 12 chapters so about half way i guess.

game has soooo much potential, but it's just not quite there.  they've unfücked some of the early stuff i read they were burned by, such as the 30fps frame lock that can be disabled in the options & also the permanent letterbox mode which i tried to play with but it really really hinders the game.

also not sure what it is about the game but every time i put it down i have a little nausea or something.  not sure if it's the drab kinda environment or just something else, but it's pretty bad.

game is still good, but it really could've been brilliant.  lot of the fights are a bit frustrating, also the checkpoints are really badly laid out.  for instance you might just breeze through an area with no fights, then get a checkpoint.  in other areas you'll literally defeat a horde, then a boss, then a horde & some exploration with no checkpoint.  the game is also a little unforgiving in the dark souls way where it's trial and error to determine the 'correct' course of action (run, fight etc) which makes the bad checkpoints even worse.

Here's hoping they make a more polished sequel?  Hope the second half is better and less nausea-inducing than the first :).

Been playing more War in the East - decided to try a full campaign, and  think I've got a basic understanding of the key mechanics now.  It's a looooong game - each turn takes me about an hour, and a campaign has up to 225 turns in it!  I'm slower than your average gamer of course, but even if you cut that in half, that's a long campaign!  The game has a bunch of shorter scenarios for people who want to complete their campaign before next Christmas as well :).
