i'm aching to get back to fallout 4, it's driving me insane !!!! lol.

some things that i really loved about it in my play, SPOILERS;

- environment looks great & is different to the other 2.  it's hilly, lots of buildings & stuff about, it looks fantastic pre-nukes too, can't wait for the next elder scrolls as that'll just blow everything away i think *starts saving for new pc lol*

- guns guns guns. the modifying is awesome.  you start out with say a bolt action pistol, you can mod it to serve different purposes, only really the caliber of the bullet remains the same (so different barrels, firing mechanisms, stocks, barrel attachments, sights).  also guns do not wear out.

- crafting.  yes it's about the same above, but you pick up some armor, you can improve it.  you want to build a building with work benches etc you can.  you can build settlements for your friends who will live there & work there.  you can only build in certain areas though.

- your settler guys.  more on above, but you can kit them out like your followers (they defend your bases), but i don't think they will actually follow you anywhere.

- i will think of more things while i painfully wait for the end of the day =(

I was going to play a bit last night but it ended up too late when I got around to it... hoping to throw a couple of hours into it tonight, at least have a quick look to see if it sucks me in.

Finished Lara Croft GO(iOS)

Its somewhat different to Hitman GO, while it does keep the same turn based gameplay, the amount of turns to take isn't displayed like they were in Hitman. The levels also don't have any secondary objectives you can aim for like in Hitman either and it does have a graphical change away from the board game style to a more low poly count style and more animations in characters and also level environments.

It does have a few collectibles which save the moment you collect them and also so how many you have to find each level both of which are always welcome additions to any games.

Level wise they are more straight forward, once you complete them they are completed and unless you still need collectibles there is no reason to play again unlike Hitman to finish other objectives or equal the lowest amount of moves. The levels aren't as puzzling to do until you get on a bit, then a few require a bit of forward thinking or a few fail and learns.

Overall it was a short but enjoyable game, downside is lack of replay-ability compared to Hitman. I also do feel that while similar they are different enough in style that because you like one doesn't guarantee you'd like the other.

I havnt tried any crafting or mods yet, but playing the game on normal difficulty feels just right when you dont make crazy powerful weapons or chems. only using weapons and armour that I pick off the dead

I just wished that low intelligence = funny dialogue :/ still loving fallout 4

So had a little play of it tonight... enough to get the dog, saved it just after that. Not bad... stocking up on junk, never picked it up before in previous Fallouts... makes sense now that you can build/mod stuff, so been dumping it across the street (from where you start). Hopefully that becomes the new home for a while, otherwise I'll have to transfer it all (if that's how it works).

@ straussy; the guns compared to previous fallouts seem a lot weaker, even when modded up, as they balance out with poorer reload or fire rate (keeping the dps similar i guess).

@ gc; your strat sounds good to me, you'll only have to walk it a few metres to deposit it so to speak.

played more last night, you can give your friends/settlers weapons they will use, but seems they won't use any armor etc.  also one of them has become a follower after completing a mission which is nice.  have left him at the town though.  also how good are the 'cities' in this !!!!

I finished off Until Dawn last night and managed to save 5 people. Man it was intense at the end... The music and score does so well to make certain parts of the game and exploration feel intense and dangerous and the way some of the camera angles were positioned really made me want to pause for a bit (or a while) and calm my nerves before proceeeding, hehe.

I kinda saw one of the main story twists from the beginning but didn't expect how a lot of the scary stuff turned out. The way they told the story was still really good as there were lots of clue finding for the player to piece together the story while the in-game characters did so.

Overall, I really enjoyed the game and am thinking I might replay some of the chapters to save everyone this time while getting started on Fallout 4 some time soon too.

I dunno - I only got to the petrol station with the rocket out the front (where the dog is). Now I fucking need to get to a city tonight. Damn this game. I've got my first mod I need to install as well... should fix the ultra wide problems (fuck playing this game with black boxes either side). Also gotta download the Nvidia patch and then enable SLI... already onto it, got it bookmarked ready to hit the town.

well the cities are more like cities, whereas in the old games they were kinda just little groups of houses & some spread out areas.  you'll see soon, i followed the main quest & have already been massively side tracked lol.  at least the quests seem to have real value & interest, not just go here, go there kinda stuff.

Yeah - I'm all about the side quests... the main I'll do right at the end or when things stop advancing and I can't find anything to do. That usually leads to more side quests.

Wrapped up Tropico, and rolling onto Patrician IV here, which seems easier to get into than three was (three never grabbed me, only got a couple of hours in, I think, then gave it the heave-ho).  Also gave Aaru's Awakening a look - a 2D action platformer that came out on PS+ a whiles back now.  Looks alright, but a bit quick and reaction-heavy for me to give it more than a quick taste, but mechanics were polished and level design solid, at least early on.

Put a hefty amount of time into Battlefront today. Really enjoying it. More than I thought I would. Not liking Walker Assault as much as I thought I would but I think that is because people don't know what they are suppose to be doing. Maybe in a week it'll be better. Enjoying all the other game modes though. Well, out of the ones I've played. Haven't tried the hero based ones yet. Some modes need more map variety though. That maybe something they can fix with future content (Issues with paid map content not withstanding).

I've started a new game + of Witcher 3. It feels much more natural Geralt starting out with some actual equipment and stuff already and they seem to have scaled everything really well. Think I'm going to enjoy it more than my initial playthrough.

Good to play it with all the updates/hearts of stone etc all there now too. Able to tune out and not have to fiddle with settings as much like the first time round. It sucked calibrating it all only to have the game updated and have to start all over. Made me think should've just got it on the ps4 as I actually really hate the amount of screwing around which sometimes/all the time happens with pc games.

Do these problems occur mainly for low - medium spec computers... because I tend to not have any problems at all? Don't get me wrong - not trying to sound like an elitist. I'm guessing the time will eventually come though but I hope by then (maybe another 3-4 years from now), I'll just upgrade a few components again.

That you reckon the second playthrough will be better than the first is good sign Smokey, enjoy :D.

I'd bet good money that the games are developed on high-end machines, and the internal betas and the like will be done by enthusiast PC gamers - so the vast majority of pre-launch testing is likely to be done on high-end rigs.  If this is the case (I'm just guessing, but I reckon it's a decent one), then you're likely to find more bugs in low-end rigs just because less testing has been done on it.  You might even find high-end rigs have near-console levels of testing/QA done, which may be why you're getting similar results.  I have noticed an improvement in the general stability of the PC games I've been playing in recent years, but they've still got a long way to come in my experience before they match the usability and reliability of console (case in point, Tropico 5 on console was a smoother and less painful (pretty much all fun, actually) experience, while I was never quite happy with my settings for Tropico 3 on PC, despite playing around with it a bit).

Too many PC variants - it'll always be like that I'd say, some games more than others. Console obviously being one variant for each... much more focused testing... will never be equal.

Don't get me wrong though - if you call not having SLI support and ultra wide screen support (e.g. like Fallout 4) a problem, then I've had problems. I can change ini files for SLI though (which I still haven't - one 980 still does okay) but while I can fix it to 21:9, the HUD does all sorts of funky stuff (eg. things not lining up and stretching). It will be fixed though - just gotta wait for someone to mod it. The same thing was 'apparently' wrong with Skyrim - although it was fixed long before I played it on PC.

If you have a high end system I think it's effectively able to brute force it's way through any issues too. If there's a memory leak or bad coding it doesn't matter so much if your specifications are that high. I have a pretty decent setup but maybe I'm just unlucky :/

There hasn't been a game lately which hasn't involved dealing with external settings and fixing something directly or indirectly related to running a game with me. For example without setting physx to be calculated on the cpu Witcher 3 ran horrendously. An update "fixed" performance by introducing horrendous popin. Geralt had a magically disappearing beard in cutscenes for me. Then GOG Galaxy ultimately ate my entire Save game losing about 3 days worth of gametime.
Black Flag you need to force proper vsync implementation via third party software. Otherwise you have 30fps jumping up to 60fps when you look up at the sky introducing stutter or turn vysnc off and have tearing. Watch Dogs has a horrendously flawed texture streaming pipeline ported incorrectly that plays up on even high end systems. So many games have their own platform within a platform setup now too, like Uplay, Origins and sometimes they conflict. Ground Zeroes became unplayable for me when a busy mouse cursor would appear every 2 minutes and return no matter what I did :/ Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut (such a shitty release) Didn't even launch unless I completely disable my integrated video card.

This is why consoles aren't going anywhere anytime soon. everything can be accounted for with a set platform whereas with PC the variations just keep growing.

what cpu & card have you got smokey ?

i've had a reasonable run, but it's likely due to me spending most of my time in old games.  have had issues though where some games wouldn't run (halo won't work in win 10 & ground zeroes had an amd card issue that come to mind recently).

i'm finding more that new games are coming out with these extreme 'recommended' system requirements & simply don't need/warrant them.  almost seems a contest.  watch_dogs was a biggy for this, ran great on my 660 & 4440.
