Started Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) since I'm stuck in Peace Walker as I am unable to pass a cutscene since I can't hit a button quick enough. Tried the usual hitting it and the shirt rub method but nada, so I've given up on that for now, will give it a go some other time but right I want it to die in a fire.

Back to Valkyria Chronicles ignoring the aliasing it's a pretty game, it's style and colour palette is quite pleasing to my eyes. I've only had a quick little play but from what I have played i think I will like it. I like the turn based style but still giving you personal control over the characters around the battle field.

No, i figured why not give it go before I get too into VC right now so I tried to google it but found no answers(my keywords no good :/ ) so I just took a pencil and figured it's probably just using it to rub it over it? And did that and passed it first attempt quite easily, though probably would've been touch  and go with a 4th round of it.

I started playing Until Dawn yesterday and got pretty hooked :D. It feels more interactive than the Telltale Games with choices having a more immediate and important effect on how relationships and paths branch out.

I really like the atmosphere and setting, the characters have a bit of depth to them so you can see some of their development and relationships with other people grow (depending on how long they survive). A few of my characters have died already though due to me missing some QTE's and making not-so-safe choices. Hopefully I xlcan save them in future playthroughs :(.

I also did squirm and freak out a few times, haha. Played ut till about midnight yesterday but thankfully,  no nightmares were had :P.

Nice one Live B).  Will be interested in your thoughts once you've played a bit more.  How are those nerves going? ;).

Thanks for the warning re: Peace Walker.  I'm terrible at those things these days, at least now I'm emotionally ready for the game to stonewall me down the track :).  I wonder how playing that section would look on the bus or train?.

What Graph said B).  Hope you like it Spec, it's a grower, it starts relatively slowly, but by the end of it, you can really appreciate the depth of the game.

Taking a break from Blood Bowl 2 (maybe permanent, but I think I'll go back, the tournament I was playing bugged out, and I reckon I'll start another, but I tend to want to have a break from a game after it's gone awry like that) and started playing Tropico 5, and it's tops :D.  Only an iterative improvement from Tropico 3 (and I presume 4, but never got around to playing that), but the improvements are all good ones, and at this stage in a series' development it'll generally be iterative improvements - ie, that's not a bad thing.  Controls like a dream on PS4 as well - UI tailored for 'couch distance' gameplay is a godsend :D.

^ Yeah it was certainly an annoy road block, there is another triangle spam cutscene again a bit later but I managed to pass it first go tapping it normally but I did start to tire during it.

Any ways im done with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PS3) for now maybe for good will see how a break goes. I finished up the main story line, so only S rank and extra ops left to do but its just become mostly annoying to play. A few years ago Id push on through to raise the 38% trophy completion while it bothers me still a bit I lack that drive to push through things nowadays, especially when I have other games to play.
Most extra ops are fun but I good amount of them are vehicles battles and boss battles and for me they are a massive weakness on the game, they just take too long to do, and feels a massive step down on the battles from MGS2 and 3. The research and recruitment was cool early on but now if you want to get the good stuff its alot more time and effort into it to make those missions go easier but you have to go through those missions to be able to get the better stuff to begin with.

After it all its a definitely several steps below MGS2 and 3 for me.

Well I will continue on with Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) now.

But did you?

If you think PW is sub-par then I suggest staying away from MGSV. That's coming from someone who liked Peace Walker. If you think the extra-ops in PW were boring then MGSV's will kill you.

I finished chapter 5: Outer Heaven is there any-more after that that needs triggering?

I don't think they are all boring I've done and S-ranked a fair few of them its just Im now coming up to the Vehicle and larger boss type battles and they just don't interest me as they take longer then I would like at this stage.

Apart from the spongey boss battles I enjoyed the main ops and the story was interesting again not on par with MGS2 or 3 but still held my interest.

From memory there's a few side things, like all of paz's diary, Strangelove Cassettes etc but nothing major.

I've been playing the Enhanced Edition of Divinity and holy crap it's fantastic. the original version kinda got lost among other games but I don't think that is going to happen this time. The camera improvements, controller support, voices, rebalances are exceptional. When most releases now are literally just making things run on upto date specs this feels like a real enhanced version. It's so good to play something turn-based alone.

this along with wasteland 2 director's cut are both on my replay lists.  as you said they aren't just refreshed etc, both have had massive overhauls & both worthy of the 70 hours a piece to replay imo.

Good to hear - I should re-download it now that it has released... glad I held off waiting for that. Also glad I held off on Wasteland 2... just need to purchase that one, but will wait for a decent sale on it.

Im done with Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) for the most part it is good and everything I like the cut-scenes and think its got a good balance between both missions and cutscences for me I dont feel that either are too many or too few, it does have a fair amount of depth that I can see opening up with squad composition but also weapon stat upgrades to your play style. When everything is fine its good, I like the gameplay itself and found those times fun and the hit rate overall seems pretty even between the sides,

But its just starting to get annoying to play mission wise and some gameplay AI quirks that are appearing more often then I can deal with anymore.
Mission wise the big tank battle was annoying having to wait for it to shoot before being able to damage it, I had several turns where I couldn't do anything and it was just annoying down time, especially when you cant take too many turns in it. The current mission I've stopped at is one where you must chase a armoured car, its just not fun in the slightest for me, I don't think I'm that far into the game so I think its reasonable that several of these change up types of missions are still to come and its just turns me off.

Gameplay wise is the AI advantage that seems to love showing itself in my face, its got a noticeable advantage with suppressing fire(What ever it is called when units autofire outside of target mode).
I can hammer the target button as the camera goes down to tactical view and the AI can still get shots in on my units a noticeable amount, the offshot of this is several times I've been killed after I've started the target UI to come up as the AI has continued to shoot at me not once have I been able to have my units do this, the AI triggers target mode instantaneously when it wants to.

Another problem that my guys are also noticeably slower at targeting when suppressing fire. They will have their units walk in-front of my units a few steps and if I'm lucky my guys might get a shot in mostly in those few steps they wont get a shot in, compared to the AI when I don't move at all and try to go into target mode straight away the AI is more then capable of getting shots in not every time but enough for it to be a problem.

While its not at the stage that these problems costing me a unit causes any great problem with completing the mission as time goes on and missions get tougher I can see these issues causing my to loose a unit and the battle and again this thought just turns me off wanting to play any longer.

I want to like the game I like the way it looks, I like the amount of choice it gives you in squad make up, I like the gameplay itself, I've gotten laughs out of the cut-scenes and enjoy them, and even enjoyed reading a bit of the glossary and character profiles but those issues are just something that will annoy and annoy over time and I'm just going to get out now before I just end up fully hating the game as a whole and not just some annoying issues.

hate it when a game gets on your goat like that, you put it down & never pick it back up.  i can't recall too many things that frustrated me, there were times i think where i had to stack my side with 1 type of unit & play very defensively which was annoying (be it snipers or those rocket guys).

Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) is now, it just didn't feel right Axe, since most of it felt so good, it felt wrong to stop playing, so I went back to the 4 skirmish battles I had unlocked and played them, got them down to 2 moves(S1), 1 turn(S2) and 2(S3) and 2(S4) turns with scouts. It was fun trying to get them down as low as possible with what I thought was the best way, levelling the scouts to elite status to get the grenade launcher really takes them to another level, I have them at level 15 right now.

I then just went and looked at how to do that chapter 9 mission and got it done in 3 turns with an A rank and moved on from it.
Its still enjoyable ignoring those issues I mention which still do appear, and of course I get annoyed when plans fail and I have to adapt but generally move on the next turn.

So yeah I'm back to it for now.

it's critical to replay levels & buff your characters.  iirc there was one level in particular i'd grind to level up, you head down a road toward a windmill i think, has a tank & a few canons in it & i had it worked out pretty well to knock it all out.
