Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) is now, it just didn't feel right Axe, since most of it felt so good, it felt wrong to stop playing, so I went back to the 4 skirmish battles I had unlocked and played them, got them down to 2 moves(S1), 1 turn(S2) and 2(S3) and 2(S4) turns with scouts. It was fun trying to get them down as low as possible with what I thought was the best way, levelling the scouts to elite status to get the grenade launcher really takes them to another level, I have them at level 15 right now.

I then just went and looked at how to do that chapter 9 mission and got it done in 3 turns with an A rank and moved on from it.
Its still enjoyable ignoring those issues I mention which still do appear, and of course I get annoyed when plans fail and I have to adapt but generally move on the next turn.

So yeah I'm back to it for now.

You can't keep a good Spec down B).  Good luck with the rest of the game :).

it's critical to replay levels & buff your characters.  iirc there was one level in particular i'd grind to level up, you head down a road toward a windmill i think, has a tank & a few canons in it & i had it worked out pretty well to knock it all out.

I didn't have to replay any missions (just the couple that I failed the first time through - but I never played any all the way through twice) - although you definitely can and level up to give you an edge.  I remember that windmill level, it went well, although you'd want your snipers on song for that if I remember correctly (which I might not :)).

yeah there were plenty of snipers, iirc though i used 2 snipers to take them out, then it was the usual scouts & smg guys for the rest flanking from the right hand side.

i think you are meant to replay every mission twice for something aren't you ?  there's a reward or bonus for it, but the windmill level was the one i used to grind as it was all over in a couple of minutes & had massive bonuses (had maybe 3 of those elite/commander(?) guys in it too).

I can't remember anything like that, but I'm not great at all those hidden rewards in-game for doing stuff like that, I just kinda play and see what happens.  That's what I get for being a silly casual :).

It's been a while since I played VC but I remember grinding sometimes and mostly revising strategies for some of the harder battles as well. Especially if there were enemy snipers and armoured units around and needing to make sure they wouldn't take too many hits.

i reckon it was a steam achievement to replay each level as a skirmish, but i definitely replayed the windmill to level up guns etc.

I'm still pushing through, I swear the AI just goes about mocking me sometimes having units just run around knowing my guys interceptions fire reactions are snails pace to what theirs are. Just so annoying to see the exact same scenarios play out on opposite sides yet watch the AI get free shots in so much more often and easier.

I got up to that windmill level, I just used scouts to the right for it and the Edielwiess up the middle and Rosie and Largo for extra moves, I levelled things other than scouts late so snipers were still inaccurate for me up until recently.

Finished up to chapter 15 now.

Story and mission spoilers for Chapter 14 and below

i remember that level with the 2 tanks that appear, i think the tactic i used was to hide my tanks & set my guys up to only fire on guys approaching.  think i also had to have snipers up a tower picking guys off & then hiding again while the lancers were just having a bad day trying to bash the tanks.

Well I am done with Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) again, got up to the final boss battle and I just don't have it in me to go through it, I won't pick it up a 3rd time so it is done for good.

Chapter 15 and beyond spoilers
Spoiler

A PS3 issue which wouldn't occur with KB&M but I didn't have as great precision as I would like, made times aiming and moving a bit fiddly, so often I was just tapping the analog stick trying to line a shot up just right or position someone just right.

Such a shame overall, I really do like the art style of it, ignoring those AI advantage issues that annoyed me the gameplay was solid, really liked it, the mixture of turn based while still getting to a lot of control over your units.

It started off so strong but just went down as time went on, the interception issues was ever showing its face more often then I could ignore. I am glad I never gave into picking it up on PC the times it has been on sale, since it's a rare thing for me to give up on a game.

Nice work on getting as far as you did Spec - you have it a red-hot go, and you shouldn't feel bad for letting it drop.  I don't like dropping games either, but I've found if they're not doing it for me, it's generally better to drop it than to get the irrates over them.  From memory, I wasn't so hot on the final boss fight either, although I generally find most boss fights silly and contrived (it's one thing I like about the MGS series boss fights - they know they're silly and contrived, so they go all out to make them super silly :D).

Am still Tropico-ing and Peace Walking here, with a little Gal Civ III in-between (up to patch 1.4, and the AI is now pretty good - it kicked my arse on 'normal', and there's not many strategy games that do that, and while I'm competitive in my second game, and coming out on top, it was a challenge.  Still needs starbase automation though - I can recommend for small maps, but starbase building is still an RSI-inducing clickfest for larger maps (because you need a lot more starbases).

i haven't technically finished pixel junk eden, but i'm over it for now so i've moved onto metro 2033 redux.

i had metro on xbox 360 & it was a ton more difficult.  i don't remember there being an option at the start to play 'spartan' mode with more ammo & stuff but that's what i picked & i'm loving it.  on the 360 i hit a level & an auto save point where i had no air filters left causing me to die without any hope of going on so i had to abandon it.

right now just really enjoying the game, i'm midway through chapter 6 & apparently there's 7 chapters so will try to bash through it before starting fallout 4.

so far loving;
- gun variety & customisation
- game mechanics in terms of how the guns recoil, movement etc
- extreme detail (for age) regarding environment, npcs in their clothing, faces, personalities etc
- it's only just a little too long for me to jump straight into fallout 4 which i won't get to touch til wednesday, but now later if i have to finish metro lol

Great to hear Graph :).  I reckon the Metro games are great.  Have to say, I'm very impressed you're trying to finish it before playing Fallout B).

left fallout 4 installing/dloading today, thinking i might take tonight off & hammer metro until it's finished so i can play fallout tomorrow (my day off work has been cancelled too !!!!).

also have a lovely fallout mask thanks to live & spec that i might shy away from wearing around my family as it does look a little creepy on a 35 year old lololol.  thanks very much guys, really appreciate the fallout bits & bobs, all going straight to the pool room so to speak.

The only thing I've heard is that it might have some fps issues on ps4 but that's about the only bad thing.

Knowing that stuff like that was inevitable is why I decided to hold off for a while.
