Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power will be up for Early Access 21 April

Quote

Why Early Access?
“Trine 3 is our first move towards 3D-gameplay in the Trine series, so we wanted to get in touch with our player-base in an early enough phase to collect feedback on the new gameplay features, so we can tweak those into the right direction. Early Access can hopefully provide us with lots of players willing to do this.”
Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“The Early Access version will be priced slightly lower than for the official release.”

More Q&A on the Steam page.

I'm not too excited by this, I find it odd that they are going the Early Access route since its not like its Frozenbyte first rodeo with games.

Slow Down, Bull is out 20 April giving it a mention as its made by a few people at Insomniac Games and is their first game on steam. Wonder if there is any possibility Insomniac could self publish Fuse on PC.

And Halo: Spartan Strike joins Spartan Assault on Steam hope some of the other older Halo titles follow, would be interested in grabbing them for the SP.

On the plus side (and unlike a number of developers), at least they're charging a bit less for early access peeps, rather than a bit more (so they're, in effect, giving people a discount if they help with their alpha/beta testing).  Agree it's a bit odd, but early access is the new black in some circles.

Not sure if it will affect anyone here but just incase you only get your steam games through gifts or from other sites/retail.

Quote

Limited User Accounts

Quote

Note:
CD Keys, retail purchases, and gifts do not remove limited user restrictions. See How do I gain access to these features? below for more information.
Steam Support cannot remove this limited user status from your account.
Why can't I access certain Steam features?
We've chosen to limit access to these features as a means of protecting our customers from those who abuse Steam for purposes such as spamming and phishing. Read more...

How do I gain access to these features?
You will need to spend at least $5.00 USD within the Steam store.
Some examples of purchases that grant access to these features are:
  • Adding the equivalent of $5 USD or more to your Steam Wallet
  • Purchasing game(s) that are equal to $5 USD or more from the Steam store
  • Adding a Steam Wallet card to your Steam account
  • Purchasing a Steam gift that is equal to $5 USD or more from the Steam store (Receiving a Steam gift from a friend doesn't count)
Each Steam purchase total will be tracked in USD. If your Steam store's currency isn't in USD, it will be tracked and converted to USD automatically using daily exchange rates.

What features are unavailable to me?
Limited users are prevented from accessing several features on Steam, including but not limited to:
  • Sending friend invites
  • Opening group chat
  • Voting on Greenlight, Steam Reviews and Workshop items
  • Participating in the Steam Market
  • Posting frequently in the Steam Discussions
  • Gaining Steam Profile Levels (Locked to level 0) and Trading Cards
  • Submitting content on the Steam Workshop
  • Posting in an item's Steam Workshop Discussions
  • Accessing the Steam Web API
  • Using browser and mobile chat
What will not grant me access to the above features?
The below actions will not remove limited user restrictions:
  • Activating a retail game on Steam
  • Playing free demos
  • Adding a non-Steam game as a shortcut
  • Adding/playing promotional trials like Free Weekends
  • Free to Play games (Examples: Alien Swarm, free versions of Portal and Team Fortress 2)
  • Activating promotional CD Keys from hardware or graphic card manufacturers
I received my game(s) as a gift, will I gain access to all features?
No, games that have been received as a gift or via Steam Trading are not eligible.

What if a purchase is refunded to my bank or my purchase is disputed/chargeback?
If a purchase amount is returned to your bank, the amount will be subtracted from your account's total purchase value. If the refund or dispute amount brings your account's total purchase value below $5 USD, then your account will lose access to these features.
For example, if you purchase a game for $5 USD, your account will gain access to these Community features. If you open a dispute with your bank, these funds will be returned to the bank and you will lose access to these features because Steam never received the funds.

What if a purchase is refunded to my Steam Wallet?
Refunds credited to your Steam Wallet, such as pre-order refunds, do not modify access to these Steam Community features.

What if my Steam store currency isn't in USD?
If the Steam store isn't in USD, we will track the purchase amount in USD by converting each purchase total made on Steam using daily exchange rates. Once you have made the equivalent of $5.00 USD or more in total Steam purchases, you will gain access to the restricted Steam features.

didn't know accounts like that existed, thought we just signed up & that was that.

well badge crafting & selling the wallpapers & emoticons was nearly useful today.  picked up eador: masters of a broken world just now almost fully paid for by crafting (however spent some money crafting so nearly broke even, they win out either way).

That's because they are something Valve just in the past few days introduced to combat bots. Some users get lots of friend requests from bots trying to scam them out of their account or inventory items.

And something that some people could be caught out by if they've only ever gotten games from other sites since steam isn't the only store nowadays and quite often games can be had cheaper else or people who only play f2p games.

Sounds good doing something like that. I get 1 lvl "private profile" requests on steam all the time. Most likely to try and pm me phishing links.

So I bought Skyrim Legendary Edition on G2A to test it out - no problems at all (DLing it as I type). Got it for US$15 compared to Steam which is US$50.  I did get the G2A Shield thingy as well just in case. Will definitely use it again.

Added to the above - before I start Skyrim, I've been watching this guide to modding it...

He basically goes through everything. So I think I'll mod it first then begin the adventure in all its glory. No doubt I'll come out the other end a whore. Anyway, seriously sounds like a fun task.

Nvidia possibly scrambling to increase sales of the 900 series? Has me a bit worried that the 980 is already the ultra requirement, particularly at 1080P.

i honestly wouldn't worry or read too much into it.  watchdogs had rumored stupidly high system requirements & when it came out even the xbox one could run it.

from what i've seen the prettiest games coming out appear to be witcher 3 & project cars, both of them have quite low entry level requirements & even fairly modest high end requirements & for me both games will be setting the bar for quality of games to come for a long tme.

When you spend $1600 on GPUs - you tend to get a bit worried.

Skyrim Workshop Now Supports Paid Mods

Quote

We’ve had a long and excellent relationship with our good friends at Valve. We worked together to make the Workshop a huge part of Skyrim, and we’re excited that something we’ve been working together on for a long time is finally happening. You can now charge for the mods you create.
Unlike other curated games on Steam that allow users to sell their creations, this will be the first game with an open market. It will not be curated by us or Valve. It was essential to us that our fans decide what they want to create, what they want to download, and what they want to charge.

Many of our fans have been modding our games since Morrowind, for over 10 years. They now have the opportunity to earn money doing what they love – and all fans have a new way to support their favorite mod authors. We’ve also updated Skyrim and the Creation Kit with new features to help support paid mods including the ability to upload master files, adding more categories and removing filesize limit restrictions.

What does this mean for you?

As a modder, you now have the option of listing your creations at a price determined by you. Or, you can continue to share your projects for free. For those shopping for new mods, Valve is making sure you can try any mod risk free.

For full details on these changes to the Skyrim Workshop, check out Steam’s announcement page and FAQ.

Modding has been important to all our games for such a long time. We try to create worlds that come alive and you can make your own, but it’s in modding where it truly does. Thanks again for all your incredible support over the years. We hope steps like this breathe new life into Skyrim for everyone.

seriously don't stress about it, gaming studios/developers won't target the <1% of gamers who have a system with the capabilities of yours or else they'd just go broke (plus if it's on the consoles as well then anything over a $200 video card will be fine).

All good - my next step would probably be getting a good 1080p monitor when the day arises and they're struggling at 3440 x 1440 (which isn't that far off 4K in width).

Starting the Skyrim modding process tonight. Not using Steam (as above), using Nexus. So many fucking mods it's crazy confusing which ones to go with but I think I have a good list of what I want. Might post up a list once it's done but it might take me quite a while as I'm being very thorough about it.

Yeah - there's quite a few mods like that. The main thing I want to do is make it into more a survival game with updated graphics (lighting, meshes, textures, water) and UI.

So - round 1 of changes/mods done... it's taken a while to do it but I think I'm getting the hang of it now so I'll continue tomorrow. The game starts up fine as well and it's looking great (far better than the vanilla), I think I will update the NPCs next so they look better, along with their armour etc. At least the ENB and lighting overhaul is done which was a bit more difficult to install. Meshes are done. Water is done also. Also got the SKSE integrated and some updated/better UI. Realistic needs and diseases (which is hunger etc) and Frostfall which is a hypothermia camping survival mod.

Lots still to do.
