Edit: The current Government have actually undermined conventions that are fairly fundamental to our form of Government.  That's their most forgivable offence in my eyes.  They can pass budgets that are neither liberal nor sound, and mess up our IR, but messing with our democratic fundamentals is something I can't give them a pass on.  It's subtle stuff, and it never makes the mainstream media, as it's all a bit complicated for the average punter to care about, but the people doing the undermining should know better (and could well do).

No way I'd like Shorten to lead our country. Much prefer anyone else. The rest of the fluff, I don't care about.

EDIT - Albanese would be a far better option for Labor as Straussy said.

Yep - I reckon Turnbull urged those backbenchers (forgot their names)  to ask for the spill the first time to gauge who was for or against him a few months ago. Since then he has been working behind the scenes until he was confident enough to publicly ask for the spill. All part of a plan

Objectively this government has been one of the slowest to get legislation through for a long, long time. Think it was post WW2 maybe there was a closest comparison.

At this point they can play silly games all they want (cause it worked out so well for Labor) but do it in their own time in political oblivion and not ripping this country apart through empty rhetoric. An election should just be called because frankly I don't think the parliament is functioning. Abbott probably cares more about himself and would rather see the house burn than give up power. Say what you will about Gillard's time but they had an agenda and were getting it through the parliament, that's not even close to happening and I doubt Turnbull will change a thing.

Not at all - sometimes I think Abbott was actually a sleeper agent for the Labor party .  I think Malcolm is a far better choice for leader, only question is will his party let him have a coherent policy platform going forward, which will only happen if he gets good poll numbers.  Can Malcolm keep the ADHD Australian public on side?  Will make for a much more interesting next 12 months at least .

Malcoms biggest enemy is the Liberals and not even elected parliament members. I have a friend in the LNP and he thinks it's a huge mistake for their side (not gonna deny, awesome).

Most people who are cheerleaders for Malcolm just plain dont vote Liberal.

Unlike Tony that galvanised huge support from the party membership they are not going to show up like that to support an election. The people who door knock, donate and keep the machine going.  This extends out to their voter base as a whole too.

The actual national, Liberal coalition has barely been an issue up until now with Malcolm immediately becoming leader too which is a huge problem him.

I don't think it's going to take long to see all this crash and burn which is fun and satisfying but we're really doing a good job at fucking our country up at this point

This is what confuses me - the Libs have a leader that the majority of the party room support that also has substantial appeal to non-Liberal voters, and they see it as a bad thing.  It's even crazier, as Turnbull is actually the most liberal leader (on either side of politics) we've had for a good while.  So the Liberals have their most liberal leader, with the broadest appeal, arguably since Menzies, and they see it as a bad thing.  It's like no-one in politics thinks anymore (which would explain the standard of politics these days....)

I agree about the mess we're making of our country, it's really sad to see at the moment.
