Started playing a bit on my 2nd character over the weekend.  Having 10 charisma & 10 Luck makes for an interesting experience :)   Spent ages building up my settlement in Sanctuary, reached the height limit with my tower structure, which put my plans for a sky tower to bed.

Built a complete junk fence wall around the tower, much easier once I had enough concrete to lay some foundations to even out the surface.   The foundations work in water as well, so built a water purifying plant, with added defenses.   Built a traders area for all my stalls, and massive, enclosing power station, only 10 medium generators atm (I only have 1 Int so no science.)   Spent some time on my man cave area, 5 power armour racks, all the workbenches, and 2 dog kennels for the 2 dogs ;)  plus juke box, lighting, and a whole heap of other odds n ends.

With the Idiot Savant perk, I have made it to level 20 without actually doing much questing.  Just building and scavenging resources and helping a few settlements.

Quite impressed and the different ways you can play FO4.  My 1st playthrough was all about combat, stealth and questing.  This one I am avoiding combat and building my empire one settlement at a time B)

Really glad I bought it and am just taking my time with it .

Yep, there's no rush with FO games, I still need to go back to my 1st character to complete some stuff but having too much fun building stuff with my second.  I am glad they stuck to pure single player RPG goodness.

Indeed - nothing beats a good single player RPG.

@ live; that's just not cricket doing that lol.

@ jyk; you can build magazine racks in your man cave & store your skill books on them for that extra nerdy look.

Will have to get onto that :)

Seen some very impressive structures in my searching today, all done by PC players with mods for infinite building mats.  Lots of scavenging to do this week just for bloody copper!

Same, haha. I need them for wiring and building defence things. I noticed last night that cooking pots give copper though so I'll be keeping my eye out for those .

I pretty much scavenge everything until me and the fur ball are full up.  I finally ran out of steel and wood from too much construction so tonight will be exploring and mats gathering over building.

I ran out of ceramic and aluminum on my 1st character (gun nut 4, science 3, armour 3) upgrading weapons and power armour.

My Int 1 second character is yet to upgrade much in terms of gear ;)  Int 1 is hampering my settlement building too, need damn science!

i ran out of aluminum upgrading power armor, ceramic when running power lines lighting buildings (the little connector thingy & the external wall lights iirc) etc, cork for upgrading guns & copper i think was for the wires themselves when setting up lights, generators etc.  oh & glue all the time for upgrading guns.  those to me are the most important bits of junk to look for.

Making that vegi starch is a great way of getting glue, i think its only tatos, corn and mutfruit to brew it and it give ya 5 per starch.

So after a few solid sessions of playing this, i just cant seem to get into it. That and having 2 corrupted saves is rather annoying. Luckily i usually have multiple saves so only lost a couple hours both times. Still bloody annoying though.

Still learning all the fallout bits though. Alot to take in and such. I like the pip boy, it reminds me of the N64 goldeneye watch lol.

Mind you i just came from playing a string of horror/survival games so i might take a break, play a more less serious game to get the horrors out of my system and come back to this. Having all these weapons and items is a little overwhelming atm haha.

Yeah, that can happen to me as well Saintsy - when every second game was an FPS, there were one or two that I deliberately held off on playing because I was burned out on that kind of stuff.  Hope you re-kindle the (radioactive) fire in the not too distant future :).

It's definitely hard to let go of some of them... I usually just keep the popular ones on me, store the good ones away and the rest for scraps to go into building.

With that said though - you played Borderlands and that's all about the loot.

Funnily enough, I'm having a run at borderlands 1 to get back into the style of game haha.

been crazy at work but been hitting F4 none the less =)

nothing too great has occurred, becoming more of the same.

figured out a little trick with building, the junk walls are very hard to work with, but if you use the concrete foundation you can clip into stuff pretty well, even add walls on top of it.  this has worked REALLY well at The Castle, where i've repaired the fort's walls with concrete foundations & it's near perfect.  you guys may have already been doing this but if not the worth a look.

Still haven't gone back to play it - worked out that concrete clipping trick ages ago. That's how I got the wall to go around the house perfectly - otherwise it wouldn't have been possible.

This mod looks pretty good as well Graph...

Settlement walls without holes - I think it might be the last one/mod he talks about (can't remember off the top of my head):
