been hammering dirt 3, so close to having it finished, i'm on the last pyramid now to get gold.
gave dirt rally a quick race before switching off, second time i've played but first time on my copy. it has so much there already it's fantastic, so much potential & there's a huge chance it'll fulfil it.
first (well second impressions);
- the scenery is far nicer overall than dirt 3, michigan in dirt 3 is probably the nicest looking location & dirt rally is edging it out already. there's proper grass/weeds etc that just look current gen. the trees are all a bit same same right now & the road doesn't look that fantastic but that'll probably improve.
- the cars/spectators & other bits & pieces around the track all seem to be pretty much a copy/paste from dirt 3, although with maybe higher res & new textures, higher colour saturation but a little less good looking overall. once again this will probably improve.
- firing it up it feels kinda like an arcade game, all the settings are reasonably entry level in terms of gear ratio just close/long type stuff like dirt 3, but the actual racing is very much sim. time will tell if this is a good or bad thing, but for me i see it as a positive because all those settings often get in the way of the actual race itself.
- keybindings on the g27 are different to those of dirt 3 which gave me hell lol
- it ran really smoothly, my system is quite dated in playing the latest games, but without altering a single setting the benchmark returned 67fps average, 52fps min & 83fps max, in fact there was tons less screen tearing than i experience in dirt 3 (which i think is something to do with too many frames but if i turn v-sync on the game is rougher, no idea but i just go with what works lol)
- load times were great, but i've got it installed to one of my ssds whereas dirt 3 is on a platter drive so hard to really compare
anyway if you're even half interested in dirt rally then i really can recommend it already, i picked mine up cheap thanks to spec but don't know if that deal is still going, if not, maybe try kinguin.com
So you don't mind the lacking FFB? Feels like driving on nothing most of the time. They are working on it though - but I've sidelined it until it is fixed.
Also those benchmarks are around what I was achieving with the 980s on ultra at 3440 x 1440. With that said - I think there's a problem/bug with it that they're yet to patch as well.
- Getting locked out of the Daily Event - It turns out if you view details before entering the DiRT Daily you will be unable to enter the event. We're working on a fix for this and it should be live soon.
- Player cannot always reset their vehicle when it becomes stuck
- Error 41 – We pushed a patch live this week for error 41 but we know some players are still experiencing it so we'll keep this here for now. We're continuing to work on the problem and Thank you to everybody who helped test the patch, we’re passing what we learnt from your feedback on to Valve and we’ll keep you updated on our next steps.

Benchmark test doesn’t run correctly
- Game doesn’t save – This looks like a result of some players tinkering with their XML files but if you haven’t been tinkering and are getting the issue please drop by this thread.
