As the title suggests, this is the place to discuss any impressions and thoughts you have about Bungie's latest blockbuster, Destiny. I was going to make this thread earlier but it seemed pointless since I had only completed the missions on Earth (which was practically everything covered in the Beta). So anything you want to ask/post up, go right on ahead :D. Here are some of my (middle of the night) thoughts to start things off...

(The spoilers have screenshots taken on the Moon, just in case anyone only wants to see it for the first time in their own playthrough).

Earth, which some of us already played in the Beta:
I sort of rushed through the Earth story missions and launched them on higher difficulty to make them more challenging. Ended up dying a fair bit though, hehe. The main changes from the beta that I noticed were that the range of enemy levels are spread much more diversely (so it doesn't seem like you're fighting the same level 2-3 enemies in one big area), and the Strike Bosses seem slightly less bullet-spongey. Other than that, Destiny still feels as solid as the beta and I've only had a handful of disconnection from the server so far.

First Impressions from the Moon:
I've just completed all of the story missions on the Moon and played in Free Roam for about a couple of hours with Radi so far. Compared to Old Russia on Earth, the Moon has been extremely fun to explore and hunt for loot on Free Roam - especially with friends. There are plenty of secret passageways and underground caverns to discover if you are willing to look around closely. The different sections, terrain levels and corridors/building interiors also vary enough to actually feel like you're exploring new places rather than backtracking all the time.

Spoiler

As for the gameplay in the Moon story missions, they're each still quite short and have been keeping to virtually the same formula from Old Russia. It's still mostly been Ghost narrating and telling you what to do, where to go, and to kill and/or survive waves of enemies before he tells you more of what's going on in the story. I think these have still been much more enjoyable to complete than the ones on Earth though (especially one particular story mission), partly because the Moon is more interesting to explore now, and partly because there are bigger and tougher groups of enemies to fight against. The story seems to be getting more interesting as well, though I still wish there was more engaging story interaction with the players too beyond fighting waves of enemies. There might be in Venus and beyond, I guess.

The Crucible:
I've only played two matches of Clash (Team Deathmatch) so far in the PvP, and I actually liked it. I was really just expecting fast-paced CoD gameplay where you can win going lone wolf, but I think the fact that Destiny has regenerative shields in addition to normal health, it makes sticking and flanking with team mates more important since opponents take longer to kill and can easily ambush you. Kind of reminded me of TLoU MP a bit, lol, but I've only had just a very small glimpse into the full Destiny PvP. Radi said the PvP has been very laggy for him, but I only noticed it a little sometimes.

Spoiler

Overall Impressions so far after finally visiting the Moon:
The world of Destiny and its gameplay are very solid and polished as expected. The Moon has much more depth to explore and discover compared to Earth, so this seems promising for new the planets. But most story missions still have the same, relatively simple formula from the Beta of fending off enemies and shooting your way to compete the objectives while Ghost tells you what is happening. It should be much more enjoyable if playing with friends often to complete missions and explore, but still enjoyable enough to play alone to grind and/or find loot sometimes too. I'm pretty happy to know that I still have a lot more content to explore :).

I'd say it's worth it so if you like loot/level-grinding nature of RPGs, shooting stuff everywhere Borderlands-style and there's always the PvP for any competitive urges you might get. It's easy to pick up and play at any point too, especially the PvE/open world since you can choose to just do a mission or two or explore and grind in Free Roam if you're time-constrained. It's much better if you can play with friends often too.

I plan to be using a fair bit of Vita Remote Play with this as well. I've read that some people are playing it a lot even while at work, lol. (*Not-so-secret Vita push agenda :P*).

The game while really polished for a AAA title just feels a bit off when you explore the PvE world. Its good, but I dont feel fully immersed in the world unlike other games, which are not as big in terms of the area you explore. It just feels empty kind of if you know what I mean. Had some good fun playing with drags/bat0 before :)

The PvP is alright, but if you play alone prepare to be slaughtered. Level 20 people have really nice weapons that kill a lot faster than anything I currently have so it feels pointless when in a 1v1

I'm absolutely loving the game whether I'm free roaming on Venus or getting smashed in a Strike so I can see it keeping me amused for a few months. I classify the Crucible as a party only zone though since you really get smashed on your own and I don't think it has anything to do with levels but more to do with support.

Yeah, I'm still really enjoying the game after a few days in but the worlds generally don't feel as atmospheric as other games when playing alone. (It's a bit of a contrast coming off my pre-Destiny hype and Metro, for example). I don't mind this too much, but it could probably do with having more animal wildlife just for variety and life on the field (even just on Earth unless everything else is already extinct :(), or seeing the Fallen and other enemies do more than just stand around and waiting for our imminent arrival, hehe. Still wish the Patrol beacon missions were meatier too. At least we can get easy bounty XP and Vanguard points from completing them :D.

As everyone has said though, it does change with friends and a good Fireteam :). I've had a great time doing some hard story missions with Econo yesterday and then struggling to just survive and defeat all of the enemies in Radi's level 20+ Strike/Story missions. And of course, basically just listening to Hasan talk on the mic :P.

Nice one Econo! So much disappointment every other time when Legendary Engrams don't actually give you Legendary items :P.

I know! I had another Legendary Engram and it only gave me crafting items :(

But I'm happy with the hand cannon for now :)

I still haven't received any free legendaries :(. Only have a legendary Vanguard chest armour that I had bought. I now have two exotic Weapons bounties going though - my first requiring me to complete 25 strikes to proceed and the one I received tonight needing to search loot caches on Mars to start off.

Both are/will be extra grindy, I'm sure.

I picked up one Exotic which unlocks as the Knucklehead Radar, an awesome Hunters helm, unfortunately I am a Warlock so I need to bring my Hunter up to 20 as well so it doesn't get wasted :(

The exotic bounties are definitely a grind, but you'll treasure the exotic items that much more because of it. I'm slowly ranking up my Future War Cult reputation so I can purchase some gear off them. I originally got my Vanguard to reputation to level 1, then I changed to FWC. In hindsight I should have waited to after earning level 2 reputation with the Vanguard before changing, then I could have bought a piece of legendary armour earlier.

I reckon they dangle alt class items in front of you to encourage you to play all three classes. I obtained a legendary hunter chest whilst playing on my warlock... enticing me to jump on to my hunter and progress him to level 20.

I've been really impressed with the remote play of Destiny. It's been great for explore missions and lower level grinding, but I haven't played the harder end game content on it - I'm leaving that for the big screen experience.

I have gotten nothing much to dragon and hasan's amusement. Been playing solidly for a few days and stuck on lvl 24 with only rares.

Stupid RNG hates me in all games

@Straussy, just like the ME3 RNG store all over again :)

Well I have been pretty quiet on here but spent the last week in Destiny, so though I better write up some quick thoughts.

After a week of playing I think Bungie have done a pretty good job with their FPS/MMO cross over.   Just enough of both in there to satisfy an FPS guy like me and sucker me into MMOish things like weeklies and dailies, and the concept of grinding ;)

I am liking the PvE side of things more than the PvP, mainly due to inconsistency in the PvP experience.  Some games are fine, next gaming laggy (or hit detection issues.)

The PvE is pretty well thought out with Bounties, Strikes, Heroic Missions and then Vanguard Strikes keeping things interesting.

The Storyline was a good intro into the world, as it needed some type of story, but I hope the future DLC adds some more background and takes things into the coming 'war'.

Ok back to bitching about legendary drops.  I have had 3 legendary engrams drop and only 1 has given me gear, some Exotic Titan gloves, which look really cool but don't seem to fit my sunsingers hands ;)

Yeah, it's great for quick sessions (especially in the morning for me), patrol and even story missions but I haven't tried it for those end-game missions yet either. I start melee attacking the heck out of everything when I can't be bothered tinkering for the right sensitivity and line my shots properly, haha.
