another big push to finish it last night & pulled it off.

in the end i'd failed 4 side quests that i can't go back & complete, one of those i'd failed early on though as i think it was time based & i didn't realise it at the time.  i've got game saves from prior to all this but not stressed on missing only 4.

was set up for a threesome with yen & triss, but they shackled me to the bed & walked out lol.

final boss was very easy, second to final boss glitched & didn't move while i cut him up which is disappointing.

in finishing the game i catapulted from level 24 to i think now level 31 without really doing anything other than fight the bosses & whatever trash was between me & them.  going to keep playing it until dark souls 3 lands, get the level 35 achievement & do as many of the remaining contracts & treasure hunts i can before ds3.

will do a proper review later but all i can say is the game is brilliant, sticking with a 9/10 for it.  the quests were engaging & the only downfalls i can find is once in a blue moon it'd glitch & geralt would have very short legs (saving & loading the save would fix it), there was possibly too much content in the cutscenes for me, i simply didn't want to invest that much time in them & the story didn't engage me enough to (maybe was too deep for me in some contexts when i only have a loose interest in the world it's in so to speak) & the combat was too easy at times & too hard at others & no real reason to it (ie. a boss would be easy, but another opponent would be difficult & of a similar level).

visually the game is stunning & as far as the coding goes i'd say its top notch given the lack of issues i experienced.  also ran silky smooth & i didn't experience any slow downs or anything else of the sort.

another massive strength of the game (real reason for the 9/10) is that everything was scripted, none of this randomly generated crap for quests & map regions.  meant almost everything in the game was pretty meaningful & worth pursuing.

all round excellent game to be honest.

did i mention the boobs ?

^So much boob must be careful when viewing activity feed now.

Been playing a few games from the Sega Bundle

Played a little of Columns(PC) for nostalgia, also gave Shining Force(PC) a little play not too bad it is old so doesn't really explain much of stuff does and equipping/moving stuff through the menus is annoying by todays standards. The gameplay is simple move characters around the map and attack turn-based strategy. So I like that but I wish it was clear what order people got turns for better planning. I wont finish it though only played a few battle but if your main character(Also your strongest) dies it ends the battle while any others it doesn't. Its annoying as I failed 3 times one my fault but twice when the computer lucked out and double attacked in the same turn.
The battle can feel long taking a but to move everyone up to the enemies and to attack and having to sit through the enemies turn when all they do is nothing did start to grate a bit, might try 2 sometime see how different it is. If your character wasn't so strong and needed or didnt end the battle if they died Id play through it.

Also playing Dawn of War: Soulstorm(PC) im enjoying it only real complaint I had of the series was the camera after playing Supreme Commander I wanted that strategic zoom everywhere, in comparison Dawn of War feels cramped. Its good to play some smaller scale base building RTS after the disappointment of 2. If Relic ever do Dawn of War 3 really hope its in the vain of 1 and not 2.

Yup, me too - Graph's house of soft porn on Steam .  Should be safer once he's onto Dark Souls 3 :).  Glad to hear you've found some engaging games of late :).

wait until i get into metro last light, that apparently has full blown nudity haha.

it started off a joke screen shotting the boobs, coming from the console i'd never seen anything like it really.  now it's just become the thing to do like getting achievements.  another little easter egg in the game i find & screen shot.  it's pretty sad really how women are depicted in games though, even when they're the hero their 'features' are somewhat embellished (just look at lara croft for example).

Agreed.  It is improving (Lara Croft being a good example, and from memory Mass Effect was a bit more balanced as well), but really slowly.  At least there are strong female characters in the Witcher III and it's not just shallow stuff.

yeah really strong characters, like the skellige chick i fought in a sword fight last night, beat her & then 'slayed' her after at her house lol.  just when you guys thought there'd be no more boobs on your feed haha.

well all the contracts are complete now, think i'm going to struggle to hit level 35, i'm level 34 with only about 1000xp needed to progress, but i'm getting literally 1xp for completing a quest.  going to chase the question marks in skellige & hope that gets me over the line, but going to be a real grind.

so with witcher 3 out the way & dark souls 3 so close i started looking at the little & short turn based games on my list.

first off i tried 'Holy Avatar vs Maidens of the Dead';
http://store.steampo....com/app/261720

yes it's as awful as it sounds, but full of humour.  unfortunately it's full of bug as well.

first level i couldn't progress after defeating the boss, it didn't register i'd done it.  started a fresh game, redid the area & all ok.  next level it has a pathway blocked by vines & to pass you get a machete & chop them out the way.  well on my first go it all worked fine. then i died, had to redo that area & the vines were gone but still couldn't pass the area.  reloaded the game saves & the vines were still not there, but path still blocked.

ended up giving up on it & trying 'Braveland';
http://store.steampo....com/app/285800

well this is witcher 3 in turn based lol.

if you played it end to end in one shot it'd be about 3 hours i reckon.  it's very much for casual or novice turn based players, but even still it's very enjoyable.  it's an iOS game ported across & has the typical richly coloured cartoon graphics, but it works for it.  i think i paid about 99¢ for it & at that price i think it's a little gem.

the game is very quick to get into & all the basics for a turn based strategy are there.  at no real point did i get frustrated or anything.  the battles i lost were lost fair & square but it's very repetitive.  all the same it's worth picking up on sale & with that in mind i've given it a 7/10.

Quality turn-based strategy is always good, cheers for the tip Graph B).

Speaking of turn-based strat, have been playing a lot of Panzer Corps (turn-based strat/tactics - more tactics, to be fair, but so are most games people say are turn-based strat - through and through).  Goes well :).

just folded & ordered dark souls 3.  best price i could find was via kinguin.  they have a promo on at the moment where if you pay via paypal it's about $55 (but actually $57 when you do the buyer protection & their paypal fee which they don't mention in the promo lol).  either way it's still $10 cheaper than the next cheapest option i can find that is on GMG.

i think it's sitting on 89 or 90 on metacritic so should be good.  has an additional combat type added & you can dual wield weapons.  i usually play with a long sword which i use both hands for, using a character with high stamina & light weight, but i might have to rethink that.

Been playing the Doom Multiplayer beta.
Feels very Unreal Tournamenty, but the game play is so refreshing from the bollocks that is CoD.

There's an open beta coming up soon if anyone's interested.

It's P1nk B).  Great to see you about the place, and to hear that Doom's pleasantly older-school.  I wonder if Graph will be up for 1v1ing people in Doom....? ;).

Yeah, I'm over with online how things get deserted just 6 months after release etc too. Totally up for a promising Single player Doom though.

I've started Trails of Cold Steel on the vita. Moving pretty slowly through it due to not feeling well but it's very impressive. Probably the largest game it's gotten for awhile. Haven't played any others in the series before but seems like a good point for newcomers.
