I was a little harsh as well, as Kublai's spymaster was a genuinely interesting character.  You're not wrong about the cliffhanger, but I'm not entirely sure painting one's sinister secret plans on the wall of a room in the palace is terribly sensible!  It was good fun though, and I didn't mind the characters, the only thing that really irked me was the warfare silliness (look, fire lances, never mind they wouldn't have half the range of a decent archer and the Mongols' strength in battle were their archers!)

Is the Fall on the aussie Netflix? Highly recommend it. Gillian Anderson (she just keeps getting better and better) is a detective called into Belfast to take over a murder investigation.

Been watching a lot of crime lately. Similar great shows are Wallander (UK is just as worthwhile as the original swedish), Top of the Lake and Broadchurch.

Not sure but yeah that's a great show. I hear they want to do series 3 but personally I'm not sure what the focus would be given how series 2 ended.

Finished that Daredevil show and can highly recommend it, it's a great all-round production, with story, characters, acting and action sequences all very well done.  Picks almost all the right stuff to build on from the comics as well, although.....

I can't believe they killed Ben Urich!  One of my favourite characters from DD (and Marvel more generally), but it was an effective way of saying "this is our show, no-one is safe", and it's a bloody good character to do that with.  They'll need to find someone to 'fill his shoes' though, if they want to keep the show to such a high standard, Ben was played and written really well in season one.

Watched the second season of I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying, enjoyed it as much as the first, the short format works so well for it.

Also watched the 1st arc East Blue of One Piece was a bit daunting to see so many eps but glad I took the plunge.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching it, having funny, exciting and emotional bits and Luffy's voice actor just makes the character, the line delivery is great.

Will definitely get around to the next arc sometime soon.

Awesome Spec! I keep falling behind in the manga/anime but it's nice to watch all at once sometimes.

Ohhhhh..... That reminds me. One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 is meant to come out some time this month. Or maybe it's already out.

Subtitles, I've found that I can watch dubs of shows I watched originally in English in the past fine like Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon but stuff I'm watching for the first time I prefer the Japanese audio, just something about it seems to add another layer enjoyable and some things just sound better then they would in English.

I did try Gurren Lagann in English after watching in Japanese for a bit and it just didn't sound as good. Especially noticeable in Kamina voice actor, I don't feel it matches to Kamina in they way the Japanese one does.

Ah cool. I'm a bit the same went it comes to dubs. I think the sub and dub of One Piece are both really good.

I mention specifically Kamina above and the very next ep I watch he dies. Read that someone dies in the ep but didn't peg it would be him figured he would be one of the main stays with Simon, Yoko , kinda disappointing as he was my favourite character.

For awhile now I usually watch in original Japanese, there are great dubs out there but I think they're the exception like Ghost in the Shell. Most dubs I'm not a fan of how differently characters are treated and how over the top delivery can be.

Lol yeah they can but it's a more across the board approach with English dubs and usually contradicts the original. It'd have a lot to do with what I actually watch with anime too.

Been watching a bit more Netflix:

- First six episodes of Spartacus.  Was a Kiwi production, so tried to give it a chance, but not really my thing.  Writing made the dialogue in Killzone 2 and 3 look good (no, I'm sadly not exaggerating), characters were really poorly done, and plot was atrocious (not to mention the swordfighting, which was solid some of the time, and really awful at others), but if you're looking for mindless violence and nudity, it's the show for you .  Like to finish what I start, but couldn't with this one.

- Narcos, on Netflix, first three episodes and still watching.  Pleasant surprise, wasn't expecting too much, but it's really well done so far.  Basically a dramatisation of the story of some DEA agents after Pablo Escobar (one of the most successful drug lords of all time, for those that haven't heard of him).  If you've got Netflix, I recommend giving it a look (cost of entry being what it is )

- The Civil War - a documentary of the US Civil War.  I'd never realised how big a thing this was.  Killed off I think the first ep said two per cent of the population at the time, and a much larger proportion of the young men.  It's a 1980s documentary, and slow moving, but I'm quite enjoying it.

Not deliberately done this way, but if you're looking for violence and nudity, start at the top of the list of those three - if not, start at the bottom, lol .

If you like The Civil War you should check out Ken Burns' other documentaries.

The West is really good and I just recently watched his latest, Roosevelt: An Intimate History, which I enjoyed a lot.
