Yeah Red Wedding was hardcore, I thought I was fine having read it ages ago in the books, but it was fucked! Made me angry all over again.

Fact of the matter is that how they portray Rob's wife (Taliser Maaegyr) on the show is completely different to how it occurred in the books (Jeyne Westerling). Sure you could say the show producers have intended to implicate Taliser as a spy, but I don't believe it. In the books it is well accepted that Roose Bolton betrayed Rob on his own well before the events of the red wedding and letting Jaime Lannister go free.

Finished Season 2 of GoT, wasn't too shabby.  Takes itself far too seriously (feels like watching TV done by an angsty teen), and...

Battle of Blackwater Bay was a freakin' mess (a la my comments on RYSE, no-one launches a siege using the kind of tech available at that time by landing within range of the castle walls - definitely no-one with any experience of warfare, of which apparently Stanis had plenty - did George RR Martin not go to school?)

.. but still great 'turn your brain off, kick back and enjoy' stuff .

I think the tv show has given you the impression that he sails the ships pretty close to kings landing itself. From memory in the book yes a lot of ships were destroyed by wildfire, but the remnants of Stannis' fleet land elsewhere and the soldiers march on King's landing, but are met elsewhere by the Lannister army. Stannis in the books was never in the city.

Yes in the books I think Stannis was on the opposite bank of the river when he gets taken in the rear by Highgarden and 'Renlys ghost'. I can't really remember there is too much to remember in these books for me.

That's what I mean, good 'brain off' entertainment .  Can't comment on the books, haven't read 'em, but not suggesting that books aren't better, am sure they are.  Martin also wrote the episode in question though .

I would describe GoT as anything but brain off entertainment. The TV is more dumbed down than the books I will admit, but compared to most shit on TV its the show you need to concentrate on the most.

There's deffo a lot going on, but after season one none of it feels particularly deep (there wasn't a plot twist in season two that didn't telegraph its arrival from kilometres away, or was just totally random, deus ex machine/diablo ex machine stuff) and there's lots of stuff that's just plain silly (Battle of Blackwater Bay being the standout in the series so far). I season two as seriously as the show took itself for a while, but I found I enjoyed it a lot more if I just let it roll and enjoyed the acting/scenes and had a giggle whenever something lolsworthy popped up.  As soon as I do anything more than just enjoy it without thinking about it, the plot falls down quicker than a house of cards - shame after season one's far tighter story.

I still think it's great entertainment, and very enjoyable, but could be so much better if it had a plot that wasn't trying too hard and paid just a tiny bit of attention to detail. (Over) acting is top notch, easily best element in the shows make-up, followed by its sets, imo.

Edit: This is all just personal taste stuff mind - there's no 'good' or 'bad' entertainment - if you enjoy it, it's good, and GoT is definitely better than good .
