And fair enough too!  They definitely don't make things like they used to.  I remember my sis used my PS1 as a CD player after the PS2 came out, then gave it back to me so I can still play PS1 games now that PS1 backward compatability has gone the way of the dodo.  I hope that's the last of the bad luck up your way for a good while.

Had a fairly long (5+ hours) gaming session last night and it didn't shut itself down once, so maybe everything I've tried has done the trick?

If this happens to anyone else, here's what I've done to try and improve the issue:

* Replaced the power lead with a better quality lead.
* Rebuilt the database in safe mode (it doesn't delete any of your data).
* Raised the bottom of the PS4 so there's more clearance between the console and what it rests on.
* Stopped using stand by mode, now I make sure it's totally off after each gaming session.

I'll post in here if the problem returns, hopefully it's ok for some time to come!

Sounds like it'd be point three that did the trick - could have been over heating, hence the shutdowns. Good to hear you got on top of it though, would suck to have it go on you so soon.

I had a couple good days where it didn't turn itself off... then this morning not even an hour in to playing a game (the same game that's been fine for the last 2 days) it shut itself down again. Not sure what else I can try now It's not too hot since the fan isn't even kicking in to stage 3 or 4, and the light on the ps4 doesn't turn red (that's what it's meant to do if the ps4 shuts down due to over heating).

Sorry Eco, I can't like posts like that, that's nae good at all .  It does sound like something's gone a bit funny in the electronics somewhere - a circuit is almost but not broken, and is a bit on-and-off, or something like that.  Could be something else entirely though, I'm no expert.  Fingers crossed for you it fixes itself, but when I've had electronics do the on-and-off thing it's always meant they've been on the way out.

Update on the PS4 shutting itself down whenever it felt like it... I believe I've fixed the issue.

Turns out the on/off button on my ps4 was too sensitive and after some gaming time the internal expanding would cause the power button to be activated. I've managed to make the button a little less sensitive and all has been great this week

Wa-hey, I can like that a lot .  That power button seems to have been the wobbliest part of the design so far, silly blighters.  May your alterations carry your PS4 well into the future .

Oh yeah, that's one of the problems that mine had. Have a new PS4 now though, so no biggie!

Thanks guys, I'm just glad it turned out to be a relatively easy thing to fix once I had isolated the issue. The power and eject buttons need some adjustments for future sku's, that's for sure.
