lol Straussy - there's quite a difference between watching the world burn and a system exclusive game. I can certainly live without a game but I don't think any of us could live without our world.

That really sucks to make it exclusive now. "We believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft" sounds like it's aiming to be in direct competition with a Sony exclusive (i.e. Uncharted 4) as well, even though there still would've been a huge PS4/PC fanbase that would've wanted to buy and support it Day 1 too.

Looks like it'll be a long to play it for if I get an Xbox One down the track, or if it turns out to be a timed exclusive.

Edit: Or Xbox 360. Hmm...

I probably won't either. I think all PS gamers should't buy Temple of Osiris as a kind way of thanking Crystal Dynamics for making Rise exclusive to Xbone.

Or from people who can't afford a second $500 console.

Given the publisher made a specific decision to exclude Playstation owners, its more like fans of the series that own playstations than sony fanbois being let down.   MS still struggling with the lose of Bungie and having no serious exclusives that interest me, including this one :P

You can call it what you want CAD, I will play the game when I get an Xbox One but I won't do that until they are down around the $200 mark.

XB1 PC Emulator will be a working thing within a year, so if you have a gaming PC rig, just wait, find the ISO (free) and run it on an Emulator (free)

Not really. It is more that the first game was multiplatform and was happily welcomed and praised by people all-round (even on the main GG Tomb Raider thread). There was even the Definitive Edition released on both the PS4 and Xbox One, so it's not hard to see why most PS4 owners would expect the sequel on the same platform too and are disappointed as a result. Remember, there is no PC version for the sequel either.

If it's exclusive because Microsoft had to help publish and/or fund the development like Titanfall, then that's understandable. But right now, it just seems like PS and PC platforms were excluded for no good reason at all.

The good reason is that MS bought the rights with a lot of money Live, there can be no other explanation.

MS need more console sales, and Titanfall didn't bring in the console sales and its a bit of a wait for Halo 5 and longer for the next Fable.

I am sure MS fans would react the same way if Fable went to a PS4 exclusive, but Sony are doing fine in console sales.

Yeah - I'm not particularly interested in it. The last one they did was good but not that good I'd drop everything or buy a console to play it. I'd prefer Uncharted any day. MS does need exclusives like this. Remember Bioshock and Mass Effect were exclusive titles on the 360 and PS3 ended up getting them later anyway. I'd say that'd be the case with Tomb Raider as well. The contract is probably for X amount of years. If MS are publishing it on the other hand - then we'd never see it on a PS platform.

yeah a good score for microsoft. Like hasan said I am not going to buy a new console to play the sequel which is a shame because I was looking forward to it on PC :(

You mean, you were looking forward to playing it in short sessions over a long time on PC :P.

Sorry, couldn't help m'self ;).

Thoughts on easily the best Gamescom controversy so far:

1) Excellent move by Microsoft business-wise.  It's a good series, and it will tempt a few over.

2) While sensible short-term move by Microsoft, instead of spending ludicrous amounts of money buying out stuff that already exists (basically compensating Square Enix's shareholders for loss of sales), how about spending that amount of money on a new IP?  Still, it's classic Microsoft, they're much better at buying out someone else's creation than fostering creativity in-house.

3) Square Enix are off their head.  Of course, anyone watching the Final Fantasy series since XIII probably knows that already, but unless they had no faith in the future of the IP, then this deal stinks badly.  The Tomb Raider reboot sold more on PS3 than X360, and the remaster sold more on PS4 than X1.  They've effectively said "hey, we'll only release the sequel to 40% of the fans of the reboot".  Even if no-one in the 60% had a bad taste in their mouth from this experience, way to take a promising IP reboot and marginalise it.

4) I wouldn't bet against it eventually popping up on PS4, and definitely on PC.  Remember how we were told that the original Mass Effect (initially published by Microsoft) would never come to PS3.  Bioshock as well, for that matter.  We all know how that ended ;).  But even when (imo) it does come over, the damage done to the brand by this ridiculous move by Squeenix will have been done - at the end of the day, gamers on the two largest 'current gen' platforms by install base (PC and PS4) won't be as interested in the series.  Even for one title alone, it's probably 2-4 million copies of lost sales, or $100-$200 million of foregone revenue.

Personally, I'm not too worried, I'm pretty confident that eventually I'll get to play it, and when I do it won't be on XB1 (although if it does stay truly exclusive, then I'll just play it when I get an X1 on the cheap in 4-5 years time).

hay it was a solid game like I said in the other review thread (even if it did takes me months to complete :P)

Hence why I am not too upset over this news, but I def was going to buy it on steam sales (which will never happen now)

If it's not a timed exclusive then knowing Square, once Rise doesn't sell enough copies they'll port it over to every other platform in existence.
