Good to hear, and I'm not surprised.  Not sure who they've got doing PR for them, but they probably should have announced the MP mode properly before announcing there's an MP mode available in DLC!  Thanks for the info CAD :).

New Far Cry 4 trailer showcases ‘Battle of Kyrat’ multiplayer mode

Far Cry 4′s new “Battles of Kyrat” multiplayer mode shows Kyrat in a completely different way. Your battles will take the form of a re-telling of the struggle that took place in a long-past war between The Rakshasa, Pagan Min’s elite guard and the Golden Path rebellion. In this asymmetrical experience, the different modes are round-based, so you’ll play as both classes in each match.

The Rakshasa are the mythical warriors of Kyrat, tied to a close connection with nature. You’ll call upon animals to help you in battle, and you’ll be able to move unseen through foliage when crouching. You’ll have access to traditional weapons, and you can craft multiple alterations to your bow, and fight with fire, swarm, spread and blink arrows. You’ll also be able to create perception and performance altering syringes to gain advantage over your enemies.

The Golden Path are all about their arsenal: guns, vehicles and tech-enhanced capabilities. You’ll have access to a variety of weapon types, including assault rifles, shotguns, and multiple explosives. You can also use the bell towers at your disposal, so you’ll be able to spot your enemies from afar.
In Battles of Kyrat, you will fight as both the Golden Path and Rakshasa in three game modes:
  • In Outpost, the Golden Path works to establish an outpost in the region while the The Rakshasa are looking to rid the land of all non-believers, and secure the outpost for Pagan Min.
  • In Propaganda, the Golden Path has to bomb and destroy these three propaganda installations, putting a stop to the spread of Pagan Min’s corruption.
  • In Demon Mask, the both sides have to capture the mythical Demon Mask by using a combination of stealth and outright assault to bring it back to their home base. Work together to prevent these sacred artifacts and their unique powers from falling into enemy hands.
As a whole, the Battles of Kyrat mode consists in:
  • A 5v5 round-based matches
  • An asymmetrical gameplay where the players take on each faction. The best overall performance on both wins the match.
  • 20 minutes average matches
  • 10 maps at launch
  • 3 game modes

Cheers for the info Spec :).  I like the sound of that, having asymmetric gameplay mixes it up a bit, and after ten years of shooters playing pretty much the same is it ever was, this be a good thing (not that this is the first asymmetric shooter, but like no-respawn shooters they're fairly rare).

Bugger... guess I won't be making the MP map that I never end up finishing anyway.

Still though - it's getting some decent reviews.

It's still cool it's got a map editor in the first place, but agree it's a little sad it didn't make the cut.  If the game does well then it might end up as DLC or a patch or something (I'd suspect DLC rather than a patch, but you never know).  You're not wrong about the reviews either, it's currently sitting on an 87 in metacritic, a very good performance early :).

its not the matter of "added missions / exclusive weapon", it's quality. why can't dev release a non-broken product nowadays.

Probably because they have learnt that they can get away with it and they can just patch it. People will still buy it and they've already made a shit load on preorders before they even have to release it.

I think everyone just needs to simply not pre-order a game, find out if it's not broken (mainly via reviews) and then purchase it. That's the only way publishers/devs will learn/change unfortunately. I agree, modern gaming is a bloody joke.

Yeah, modern gaming is shit house. Has anyone played any of the PVP? Played a few games and actually enjoyed it! It's not a game that will have legs, but still pretty fun for the moment!

It's also partly related to the internet - PC games have been being released broken since at least the late 1990s, it was only the introduction of widespread internet access in the X360/PS3 era that devs started releasing broken games on console.  It's a discipline thing, they know they can patch later, so hold themselves less to account.  Console games prior to widespread console internet access, and PC games prior to widespread PC internet access (there was such a time, back in the distant past ;)) were far more robust at launch.

Yep, I played some PvP with Radi yesterday and we surprisingly had a lot of fun too since we didn't take it too seriously. I like how it's asymmetrical in the teams and you switch sides each round to pretty much prove who has the better attacking/defensive team. The hunter side can be pretty OP though especially if you bring animals into the equation ;), but the soldiers have technology and more firepower/weapons to use.

There's no party system yet so we just joined on one another and ended up being on opposite teams for all but the first one or two matches. Was good telling each other which position we were "not" headed towards or camping at and then hunting each other down :P.

The co-op worked yesterday too and it was nice having someone to free roam and do the open world activities with. Hope we get to unlock some more co-op specific activities after completing more of the story though.

To be fair though, the games themselves have become a whole lot more complex and the variety of systems that you need to support have also become more varied and complex.  When I was coding in the '80s I could maintain the entire memory map of the system in my head and I only had to support Monochrome and CGA.

Also, the skills required have gone from those of one or two developers working on a title to a large team, even in the hundreds, and it is more like a movie production than a software development exercise.
