So im moving house within the next couple weeks (Hopefully) and im over Telstra's bullshit so im looking for a new isp. I was thinking of changing to optus, but figured id post something up here and get advice from you lot.

Not looking to spend too much, around $60-$90max, only been paying $50 for 50gb lol. Amount of gigs doesnt bother me since unless i download a few games i never get capped haha. Only thing im worried about is keeping my 30dwn 2-3up speed haha, dont really want anything slower cause "Wa lag" :P.

Any ideas?

We were with Bigpond after they literally stole us from Optus who really didn't give a toss.

Optus? We had lots of problems trying to understand they're foriegn call centre operators and that just made matters worse. Not wanting to be racist at all but we found foriegn accents very difficult especially on a crap line.

Lots of lost connections with Bigpond and as you said you're over their bullshit so you know what you need to know.

We changed to Internode about three months ago and we are really happy. Speeds are up, connection is stable and people we can understand on the phone. We now pay for all of our once free calls but it's worth it.

Bigpond Download = 10 Mbps Upload 0.65 on a good day!

Internode Download = 12 Mbps Upload 0.95 our average now.

Internode are known for their customer service and have lots of info on their site about connections & speeds etc. Check out the Wirlpool forums about what people say about them.

Wow you got awesome speeds man

I'm with Bigpond and have had near zero troubles. 100Mbps cable. $90 / month 200Gb. Yes a little dearer than other providers but no probs.

I've never liked them + Customer support utterly fails. Once was on hold for 2 hours just to try and see what was wrong with my modem once. Took them nearly 3 weeks to finally send a tech guy to check it out and the thing just suddenly started working the day before he got here lol.

All i can find is $93 for 200gb for bigpond so i might aswell just get that then rather than look around. I did a quick check and the house we're hoping to get is cable approved so thats a plus haha.. Cheers for the info fellas

Good luck Saintsy :D.  We're with Telstra, and haven't had any trouble with them and get reasonable service, but my parents had all sorts of trouble with them, got the right runaround, so it might depend a lot on how lucky you get.  So, in that spirit, good luck :D.

Well i did a bit of research and apparently for WA/area im moving, iinet is the better choice. Had a look at them and not too shabby, 100gb/home phone/bob2 thingy that they go on about for $70. $90 for Telstra is a little too steep of a price for me so i've got a little breathing space with this lot lol.

Only thing is i've no clue about speeds haha, if its slower than 20down, i might end up going all hero on your asses come KZ:SF haha!

I think iinet are back by telstra, not optus, which makes thing easier if you getting a whole new phoneline/DSL end point.

I had issues with TPG as they are backed by Optus.  So I needed a Telstra tech for one half of the job and an Optus contractor for the second half, 2 call-outs, 2 fees.  All the Optus guy did was connect a 45mm jumper cable!!

Its mostly the ping that affects your online gaming experience iirc. Speed helps too, but ping is more crucial from memory
