So started the actual game (Elite: Dangerous) last night, but I'm only playing in solo mode which is the same persistent online universe but without real people. Now the idea is to learn the core game itself which is deep and the universe is well, 400 billions stars apparently, each with their own solar system like ours.

Picked up Shadow of Mordor from the sale that just went and I'm really enjoying it so far. Really like the usage of the lotr setting and threading story into a open world game which normally doesn't seem to happen. The Nemesis system is also really awesome. What would otherwise be a boring exercise in killing endless minions feels organic and filled with politics/personalities and mini stories.

I was enjoying Wolfenstein: The New Order until the final boss fight. Fuck that shit.

P.S. Had to cheese it in the end.

Argh, is it one of those "we're going to double the difficulty for the boss fight, just because?" endings?

Yeah, a bit of that. Plus the story ending was just a meh. Really tarnishes what is otherwise a good game.

That's a shame.  At least the rest of the game was good - here's hope they nail it in the sequel.

Well, they announced that standalone/DLC prequel 'Old Blood'. I'm interested to see what that is like. Looks like you get to actually go to castle Wolfenstein.

Here's some more thoughts on Elite Dangerous... played with DaMorgs and quite a few others last night, I still don't have a ship decked out for combat so I'm still stuck doing trade runs and exploring to build up the cash. The problem with this game is when you first get it, there's a massive effort you have to put in before the game really takes off. All of the people (I played with last night) had been playing it for months so I felt like a bit of a noob... these guys knew their shit! If you can get by that hurdle though (could call it the grinding stage) then you start to earn the big dollars and the game opens right up.

I recommend anyone joining in if you don't mind putting a hell of a lot of hours into it. Once I get my combat ship I'll be able to join them on the actual combat scenarios.

Further to the above (sorry for spamming so much of this shit) - decided to get a new ship last night, it's only the entry level trade (freighter) ship. Instantly started earning more money because I can hold more cargo. Before I was struggling to get to a 100K (let alone 60-70K), now I'm over 200K which took me a couple of hours (that's including buying the ship which left me with next to nothing). Still though, nothing to get excited about, the best ships are a few hundred million, plus you need to have insurance money to back it up (if it gets destroyed) and you can also upgrade them as well... so I'm a long long way from getting there.

I remember DaMorgs saying it cost him 750K just to fix his ship after a battle... I think he's in one of the top of the liners though.

Will say though - loving this game! It's basically Euro Truck Simulator in space. Will be sticking with it for a very long time I think.
