The PS4 might be just around the corner but the PS3's not done yet either. As has been the case for each of Sony's home consoles, there are still plenty of great games to play on the PS3 up to and past the launch of the next generation.

F1 2013

Release date: October 2, 2013

Codemaster's yearly entry to the Formula 1 is here just in time to catch the business end of the 2013 championship. As always F1 2013 will boast all the tracks, drivers and teams from the current season and for the first time in the series, classic content.

F1 Classics is an expansive new game mode, introduced by legendary F1 broadcaster Murray Walker, in which you'll race iconic drivers in famous cars at historic circuits from the 1980s. Content from 1990s and additional classic tracks will be available in the CLASSIC EDITION of the game.

F1 2013 features the 2013 tyre changes, remodelled handling, new enhancements/ improvements plus new, expanded and returning game modes combine to deliver the most complete simulation of a FORMULA ONE season in videogame history. The new scenario mode allows you to win medals in a range of authentic single player and co-operative challenges which distils defining 'racing moments' into quick fire, graded targets.

F1 2013 online features 24(8 A.I.) car grid races and uses Codemaster's free online community hub RACENET to track stats, objectives and weekly challenges.

BEYOND: Two Souls

From the developers of Heavy Rain the people from Quantic Dream once again look to push the boundaries of interactive storytelling by utilizing a combination of a superior storytelling and gameplay mechanics, and cutting edge motion capture techniques to present a stunning adventure that is not to be missed.

Set from the perspective of Jodie Holmes, a young woman who possesses extraordinary powers through a psychic link to an invisible entity, the game follows several years of Jodie's life and experiences, with several possible endings and outcomes. Beyond: Two Souls features a Hollywood cast with the likes of Ellen Paige and Willem Dafoe lending their voices and likeness through performance captured performances.

Beyond: Two Souls is available October 9.

Batman: Arkham Origins

The next instalment into the Bataman: Arkham series is in the hands of WB Games Montreal, and features an original prequel storyline set several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Taking place before the rise of Gotham City's most dangerous criminals, the game showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. Set on Christmas Eve, eight professional assassins aim to collect the $50 million bounty put on Batman's head by the sadistic and brutal crime lord Black Mask.

Origins will feature similar gameplay to Asylum/City with some gadgets from the previous entries returning alongside new gadgets like the Remote Claw and The Shock Gloves. Origins also features a fast travel system, combat tracking system, Old Gothham, online multiplayer and the Batcave.

Origins multiplayer is a 3v3v2 game mode with 2 teams of 3 thugs representing The Joker and Bane and the team of Batman & Robin. Gang members win by killing the opposing gang while Batman & Robin aim to accrue intimidation points by eliminating the gang members. Gang members have opportunities to become there gang leader, either The Joker or Bane.

Batman: Arkham Origins is available October 25 in Standard and Collector Editions.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Welcome to the Golden Age of Piracy. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag puts you among the pirates as a brash young captain of the Jackdaw, Edward Kenway. The year is 1715 and pirates rule the Caribbean and Kenway's fight for glory has drawn him into the ancient war between the Assassins and the Templars.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will be have a much greater emphasis on sea travel with a 60/40 balance between land and naval exploration and will be the first time the series will be without Desmand Miles. Assassin's Creed IV will also open up much sooner than its predecessor and look to impose less restriction on the player.

Explore an open world filled with opportunities in the largest most diverse Assassin's Creed world created. With over 50 unique locations to live the life of the pirate:

  • Loot underwater shipwrecks
  • Assassinate Templars in blossoming cities
  • Hunt for rare animals in untamed jungles
  • Search for treasure in lost ruins
  • Escape to hidden coves

Mulitplayer will return in Black Flag with new settings and game modes.

Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4 is the latest imposing first-person, military shooter from Electronic Arts and DICE Studios. Well-known for its grand-scale destructable environments and vehicular warfare in Multiplayer combat, Battlefield 4 continues the tradition of the venerable Battlefield Series with more naval warfare, greater weapon and character customisation and massively increased performance with the next-gen Frostbite 3 Engine.

The all-new Frostbite 3 technology is set to deliver stunning high fidelity visuals and audio with superior character animations and dynamic environments in the game. Added to this is the brand new and advanced 'Levolution' system where your actions can physically change the battlefield in real-time; whether it is reducing a whole skyscraper to rubble or simply shooting fire extinguishers to distract your enemies, all of these will provide an incredibly immersive and dynamic game environments that react to your every move. Call of Duty: Ghosts

Created by the developers of the definitive Modern Warfare Series, Call of Duty: Ghosts begins a brand new chapter of fast-paced shooting action to the ever-popular Call of Duty Universe. The new, next-gen engine for Call of Duty: Ghosts will bring stunning levels of immersion, performance and better visuals and lighting to the game; all the while maintaining the speed and fluidity of 60 frames per second across all platforms.

Featuring a completely new setting, narrative and characters in its Single Player Campaign, the Call of Duty: Ghosts story was written by the Oscar-winning writer, Stephen Gaghan, and also includes the addition of a military-trained dog called Riley to the squad. The story begins ten years after a devastating mass event has brought down the United States of America and rendered the once glorious nation's economy and government to merely a shadow of its former self. As it is, the people of this crippled nation are fighting not for freedom, nor liberty, but simply to survive. Watch_Dogs

Watch_Dogs is an ambitious open world, third-person action shooter set in a contemporary Chicago, where the whole city's central network of computers connects everything and everyone. This overarching network is known as the Central Operating System (ctOS) and controls almost all of Chicago's technology and information - including banks, security systems, the city's basic infrastructure operations and even key data on all of the city's residents.

As Aiden Pearce, you are a man shaped by violence and obsessed with surveillance, who monitors his family 24/7 in secret to protect them from something that happened in the past. Hacking effortlessly into the immense ctOS network from the palm of his hand, Pearce will be able to access security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control traffic lights and public transport and literally anything connecting to the ctOS in order to seek justice from those events and to protect his family from a new threat.

Everything is connected in this vast and intricately detailed city. And with more than 65 cars with state-of-the-art physics and handling to drive and more than 30 traditional weapons in Pearce's arsenal, as well as Ubisoft's huge emphasis on the ability to interconnect tablets and smartphone devices and other players with the actual game itself, Watch_Dogs is set to deliver a truly immersive and dynamic gameplay experience with stunning visuals and the unique freedom control all technology within your reach.

Watch_Dogs has been delayed to early 2014.

Need for Speed: Rivals

Release date: November 21, 2013

The next entry into the long running Need for Speed series looks to highlight and capture the street's ultimate rivalry cops vs Racers all in a stunning open road environment, Redview County.

Need for Speed: Rivals will allow players to play as either a Cop or Racer, each with their own set of challenges, rewards and consequences.

  • Racers aim to evade cops to gain speed points, enabling them to unlock new cars and items. Do you cash in your points early or keep raising the stakes risking them all if you get busted.
  • Cops work together as part of a team, rising in the ranks with every bust. Higher ranks unlock new police-only cars and more pursuit tech.

AllDrive is the NFS series new online system allowing players to seamlessly transition between playing alone to with friends. Autolog returns to keep track of, and compare stats and also challenge anytime, anywhere both friends and rivals alike.

Need for Speed: Rivals is available November 21.

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus

Gran Turismo 6

The ultimate driving sim on console returns to give the PS3 another lap around the circuit.

Gran Turismo 6 will contain approximately 1200 cars at time of release, and more and more cars are planned to be added thereafter. Unlike the previous title, the added cars will appear directly in the dealerships after an update, and will be available to purchase in game. You will be able to enjoy driving the newest cars right after they are released in the market.

Gran Turismo 6 will introduce new locations where the drama will continue to unfold: the Goodwood Hill Climb course, a very exclusive track that only a few selected guests had experienced until now, is recreated for the first time in a video game; the Silverstone Circuit, the holy ground of the GT Academy that nurtured gamers into professional racing drivers; and the legendary Brands Hatch of UK fame, for a total of 7 new tracks included at launch. Battlefield 4 or Ghosts? Hmm, not much time to play both, hehe. Might get Watch Dogs eventually on the PS4 ;).

Didn't buy last years F1 so might get it this year. I never seem to finish them though as I always go full laps so one season can be tiresome, let alone doing a few seasons to work up the ranks. With that aside - there's some great games coming out but I think I may hold on some of them until I get a PS4, namely - Black Flag, BF4 and Watch Doggies.

Ghosts and NFS I think.

Guess it all depends when I get my PS4 as well (hopefully early in the new year they'll get more stocks)
Definitely getting watchdogs on next gen though. It deserves to be played in all its glory
