DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition launch
Now’s your chance to test drive Evolution’s acclaimed racer

After a lot of hard work from the team at Evolution Studios, I’m pleased to announce that we are making the DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition available to all PlayStation Plus members starting on Thursday, 25th June.

We’ve spent a long time preparing for this launch after some difficult and unexpected set-backs. To make absolutely certain that all players have the smoothest and most stable experience possible we are going to be duly cautious about how we release the game this time around.

Starting on Thursday, all PlayStation Plus members can download DRIVECLUB PS Plus Edition and begin playing the offline mode. Also starting Thursday, we will be rolling out online access to the DRIVECLUB PS Plus Edition and will steadily bring more and more players online while continuously ensuring that all game systems are running smoothly. We know that this might be frustrating after your extra wait already, but hope you can understand that we are taking extra precautions to protect your experience when you do get online. We want to make sure we don’t overload the servers as we invite millions of PS Plus members to download the game tomorrow.

We have to take this precaution because DRIVECLUB connectivity is demanding for a multiplayer game, with countless ever-growing social connections across clubs, challenges, multiplayer, and hundreds of thousands of dynamic leaderboards and activity feeds.

Everybody will have full access to the offline mode of the DRIVECLUB PS Plus Edition while this is happening and we will keep you fully up to speed viadriveclub.com with updates on access as we bring everybody online.

Thank you to everyone who has stood by DRIVECLUB during the past year and for everyone who has accepted the extra wait for the PS Plus Edition and the companion app which will come after. The team at Evolution Studios is working incredibly hard to make DRIVECLUB great for you, to get everyone to have fun racing in clubs and continue the evolution of the game with spectacular updates every month. I can’t wait to see all of you enjoying the game online together.

Wa-hey!  Cheers for the news Spec :).  I highly, highly recommend all PS plussers that have half an interest in racing games check it out.  I'd rate this as the best new racing game I've played.

Haha, I will at some stage (although whether I get #1 or #2 is up for grabs now, given how little I play driving games these days), but they're totally different types of racers in any event.  While DriveClub has a sense of realism in its handling, its still an arcade racer at heart.  Or maybe its an arcade racer with a bit of sim DNA?  Either way, they're not really the same type of experience (well, based on PCars being a sim :)).

Yep, Driveclub is sitting at the wharf watching a thin plume of smoke in the distance, that would be the boat it missed.

I downloaded and played the free version, and enjoyed it quite a bit. Which surprised me to be honest. Ordered the full version off of ebay. Just wondering if anyone has room in one of their existing clubs to let me in?

The future of DRIVECLUB
Now is the perfect time to join PlayStation 4’s biggest racing community

DRIVECLUB is gearing up for another big year and we want you to help us shape it!

It’s amazing to see the global network of connected racers and clubs in DRIVECLUB keep growing, and we’re looking forward to the year ahead. The community, the game and the servers are all really strong and there’s plenty of new features and updates coming to the game, so there’s never been a better time to join us – and to bring your PS+ friends in with you with the DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition!

We’re adding more to the game every month to keep it fresh for you – whether you have DRIVECLUB or the DRIVECLUB PS+ Edition – and we’ve got loads planned to keep the game growing around you with new features, modes, tracks, cars and some big surprises on the way.

Your input always plays a huge part in powering our monthly updates too, just like you have done from the very start, and we’re already working on your most popular requests. Fully customisable multiplayer lobbies, new difficulty options, more tracks, community events, extra photomode options, fine-tuning for drift mode, smarter notifications and many more developments are all incoming. Plus we always want to know what else you want to see, so keep sharing your feedback with us! You can reach us here on this blog, on thePlayStation forums, @DRIVECLUB on twitter and on the DRIVECLUB facebook page.

We’re always really excited about by the reaction we see from all of the updates and the expansions we bring to DRIVECLUB and we especially loved your feedback on the 5 new cars we recently added in the Horsepower Expansion Pack!

To thank everyone for playing the game and for staying with us, we are running Double XP for everybody on all of the 15 cars available in DRIVECLUB PS+ Edition. It starts today and runs through to Monday 24th August! That’s Double XP wherever and whenever you play with the 15 cars featured in this amazing #PS4share photo album.

We love all of the #PS4share pics we see like these. Thanks to you – the fans – for capturing these amazing shots and many more. You continue to blow our minds with the quality of the pics you snap in photomode every day so we’ve set up a showcase for our favourite pics on driveclub.com – please keep sharing them with us using the #DRIVECLUB hashtag!

Thanks again for being so supportive! We can’t wait to show you more of what’s coming to DRIVECLUB each month & to hear what you want out of the game! Posted Image

Cheers for the latest Spec B).  They've definitely turned it around from a shaky launch (network-wise, I maintain the actual racing and driving was rock solid and amongst the best I've played at launch).  Can't recommend it enough as a 'check it out' to PS Plussers who've got it (and the download limit - with patches I'd say it's probably a dash over 30GB in downloads now, at least) to cope.

Blazes, you're not wrong - $30 for DC and all the season pass content is a great deal (and if you were going to get it, and had PS+, then you've already tried it and know you like it - the extra $7 for the season pass content in that context is crazy good value). Cheers for the info all-knowing Spec B).

DRIVECLUB BIKES announced at Paris Games Week, available now on PS Store!
Evolution Studios breaks out the superbikes in new standalone game

Keeping our superbike obsession a secret has been really hard! Normally we prefer to keep you up to speed with how DRIVECLUB is always evolving around you, but we also like to surprise you every now and then too. When better to do that than during one of the biggest games shows in the world!?

We’ve been pouring our hearts into the ongoing development of DRIVECLUB over the past year and BIKES is a standalone expansion to the DRIVECLUB universe. Before I go into the details though let’s first check out the new trailer shown at Paris Games Week:

We’re massive racing fans at Evolution and we love the challenge and the thrill of superbike racing, but we’ve always wanted to make them more approachable and fun, whilst still retaining the depth of control and authenticity you’d expect from us. With DRIVECLUB BIKES we think we’ve accomplished that, so that everyone can enjoy riding these breath-taking superbikes.

The incredible speed and superb agility of high-performance superbikes offers a completely new way to race, and as always with DRIVECLUB, there’s a lot to play for, whether you ride offline or online with your club.

12 of the world’s best superbikes: Featuring bikes from top manufacturers including Yamaha, Ducati, Kawasaki, Honda, BMW and more.
  • Full BIKES Tour campaign: We’ve designed a new game mode and loads of events to help you get to grips with bikes and ultimately challenge you to master every superbike in the game.
  • Unlimited Challenges: Create and compete in new challenges to show off and test your speed, agility and skills with bikes.
  • Personalised events: Create your own events on any track, in any mode, at any time and with near limitless weather conditions.
  • Multiplayer racing: Take advantage of the extra space on every track with opportunities to overtake on every corner in heated wheel to wheel action.
  • Customisation: Personalize your bikes and your rider, including paint jobs, rider leathers and custom helmets.
  • Clubs: Everything you do in DRIVECLUB BIKES contributes to the success of your Club, unlocking new rewards, accolades, customisation and challenges.
Posted Image

There’s a lot to play for and there’s even a second Platinum Trophy to chase down, which means that DRIVECLUB now features more trophies to unlock than any other PlayStation game in history!

We’ll have more news on the upcoming updates next week but in the meantime come ride with us! You can buy DRIVECLUB BIKES starting today from PlayStation Store as a standalone game for U$29.95. If you’re already a DRIVECLUB member, you can add on DRIVECLUB BIKES at a discount for AU$22.95.

We can’t wait to see your #PS4share Photo Mode pics of DRIVECLUB BIKES! Check out the very first pics from some of the most prolific DRIVECLUB photomode players who have got their hands on the game already.

Cheers for the news Spec :D.  That's pretty flash, a dash fast for me these days, but if the bikes are half as good as the cars, then it's well worth a look.  That price looks very reasonable as well!

Sony confirms closure of Evolution Studios

Regular reviews take place throughout SCE Worldwide Studios, ensuring that the resources that we have in such a competitive landscape can create and produce high quality, innovative and commercially viable projects.

As part of this process we have reviewed and assessed all current projects and plans for the short and medium term and have decided to make some changes to the European studios structure.
As a result, it has been decided that Evolution Studio will close.

It is regrettable that this decision will lead to compulsory redundancies. We accept that this decision will mean that we risk losing high calibre staff but by focusing on other Studios that already have exciting new projects in development we believe we will be in a stronger position going forward and able to offer the best possible content of the highest quality for our consumers.

Where possible we will try to reallocate people onto other projects. If appropriate opportunities are not possible within the company, we will assist staff in any way we can, including speaking with local employers and with other development companies.

Evolution has been an important part of SCE Worldwide Studios for over 10 years - working on ground-breaking racing titles like WRC, Motorstorm and DRIVECLUB.

This decision should not take anything away from the great work that Evolution has produced.

Source: gamesindustry

I am surprised at this I guess they never fully recovered from the DriveClub launch and DLC sales just weren't enough. Always a shame when a dev closes but this is probably the biggest one for me of studios that have closed. I loved their WRC series on PS2 and enjoyed the Motorstorm series.

DRIVECLUB delayed until early 2014

By I_live_4_fun in Gaming News, on 18 October 2013 - 07:56 PM

SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DRIVECLUB and DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014. As one of the biggest and most anticipated titles in the PlayStation 4 launch line-up this year, this would definitely come as a disappointment to many potential Day...
