General discussion of mobile apps and stuff.

It's right unusual you'll see me posting something in this neck of the woods, but I noticed that 2K have today released Borderlands Legends, for iPhone and iPad!  Looks half decent too - check out the trailer:

(also in our trailers vids section at: http://www.goodgame....nch-trailer-r36)

And if you're keen to pick it up, links are:

iPhone:

iPad:

It's early days on metacritic, but reviews are mixed, from 88 from Vandal Online, to 30 from Game Reactor Denmark.

I just bought Borderlands legends(iOS) 99c only sitting on a 3.5 star rating right now but looks fun.

I like apps they are cheap or free so I con't usually have as much pressure to play them.

Need for Speed Most Wanted is pretty good, i have it on my Samsung S3 - Good visuals and gameplay, plus connected with Autolog thingy through origin.

I dont play games on my phone all that much and when i do its usually games with simple controls like Subway Surfers and Ski Safari and Jetpack Joyride - all awesome games lol

Yeah enjoyed NFS, though I did take it as a bit of a challenge to buy all the cars without purchasing the in-app currency, repeated one race so many times.
I just gave up in the end as I don't have enough points to unlock the Bugatti and some of the NFS edition cars are not worth their price.

Sorry don't know of any games of those genres, there not to much use to me.

Played Legends for a bit, it has a 2min video before you can start playing whenever it loads from the start, the menu in the shop isn't too responsive and on my 4th gen iPod it has its slow moments and the iPods small screen size is quite restrictive.

Well Borderlands Legends is not that great,
  • crashes are a common occurrence and with the excessively long start-up time becomes grating, and while it saves your exp/cash you will have to start the mission from the beginning,
  • characters can get 'tangled' with the enemy which leaves the two in question attacking each other but doing no damage.
  • so far the areas just repeat to many times,
  • iPod screen is too small and doesn't run too well on my 4th gen touch, these would be non-issue on a iPad.
From what I have played it ranks me 127 already for gold gotten in gamecenter.

I'm yet to find anything on tablets/phones that holds a candle to gaming on a dedicated gaming device, handheld or console, so not surprised Legends isn't quite up to snuff (although it is a shame - they'll get there one day).  That said, I haven't gone looking too far either ;).  Played a little Jetpack Joyride on PS3 and it deffo benefits from having buttons, although it'd still be fun if a little clunkier without - it's an Aussie-made game, and have been very impressed with all of Halfbrick's work - Barry Steakfries, of Jetpack Joyride fame, also appeared in 'Age of Zombies', a twin-stick shooter also on Android and iOS that at least was fun on PSP B).

Ouya will flop. It's basically a cheap android device that developers will have to add controller support for so the game will work on it. Most wont because it will be to costly for them. You can just hook up your android phone to the tv and sync your ps3 controller to it if you wanted to

Of course not, none of these devices main purpose is gaming, plus the games have to get around other limitations like size, as mostly they will be played in short downtime so you can't have levels taking 10min to complete, the controls can't be too complicated, for what they do they punch above their weight.

Aye, totally - deffo not having a go at handheld games.  I thought 'Jelly Defense' on Android was actually pretty solid, it just had some rough difficulty spikes, and the small screen combined with touch controls made getting your towers in the right spot a bit fiddly.  Fruit Ninja is by all accounts awesome, and plays heavily to the strengths of touchscreens B).

yeah i heard the dual shock on an android tablet goes pretty good, but seems like a bit of trouble if you already own a ps3 though.

whenever i'm out at stuff i'm seeing lots of kids with smartphones, i'm talking 4-7 year olds here, & i reckon that's the crowd the ouya will really grab, as they're taking this technology on already.

Hooking your controller up to your phone is great for emulators. playing old snes, n64, ps1 games etc. on your phone is pretty sweet and using a controller feels better. can even use your ps3 controller wirelessly if you root it

Yeah Ouya will flop for sure. Devs are already saying it is underpowered from the original expectations.

There is a free iOS pokemon app that features a weekly rotation of 50 episodes of the Pokemon cartoon sorted by season. They are random eps. ahh memories.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is coming to iOS, looking to be a full port as well(less graphics), will most likely be quiet expensive. I would also guess it will only run on the newer generations of each model and not my gen 4 iPod.
