So uhhh, I bought one of these things a few days ago at EB - $300 for LBP Download, 4GB Card, and the unit.

Now what do I do with it?
It's just a $300 PSX Emulator for me at the moment :/

Anyone else buy this thing way too early?

  It's not a bad piece of kit, and there are some good games for it, but like any system in its first year, it's still early days yet.  If you like 2D platformers, Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack is excellent.  Wipeout is good, but the load times are on the long side.  I'm a big fan of Unit 13, but it won't appeal to everyone.  Uncharted is great if you like that kind of thing.  It's also great for PSP games as well - the sticks are so much better than the PSP's analog nub.

Other highlights I've heard but not tried are Gravity Rush, F1 2011 and LBP Vita, and the Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation looks good.  Not sure about the CoD, I'll likely give it a look, but the mob who made it also made the somewhat average Resistance on the Vita, and wouldn't have had a lot of time to make CoD either, and have recently shed staff and noted that they're moving away from retail games - not the best signs ever!

Vita came out with a bang and Big titles... then it just slowed with a release here and there, for me really was not worth it, played LBP and New Little Kings story while over seas then when i got home traded it all in towards my new xbox console. They just do not seem to be pushing this system hard enough with little future outlooks it can stay on the back burner for a long while

I didn't buy it for many games to be honest. Only really looking to play Persona 4 Golden, P4:Mayonaka Arena, MvC3, DJMAX and Technika Tune, among others.
Really wanna get Gravity Rush, Wipeout, and the MGS Collection, but that's about it for now.
Not a lot of interest in many of the early releases :(

Are there many/any community dev'ed apps?

They've just rolled out 'Playstation Mobile on Vita, that's getting a range of stuff on there.  It's still early-ish days yet, but well worth having a gander at the Playstation Mobile part of the PSN store on PSV :).

 Aye Graph, we can help :).  The Vita is Sony's second-generation portable - the PSP (which had models of PSP-1000, 2000 and 3000, as well as the PSP-Go) was it's first, and the Vita was released in Feb this year as it's follow-up.  It's a very well-put together piece of kit, at a good price (for what it delivers), but it's suffering a little for its game library, although not so much given how short a time it's been on the market.

Sorry, you asked that aye?.  It will play a range of PSP games digitally from the PSN store (but not all of them), but doesn't have a UMD drive, so won't play any disk-based PSP games.  Am happy to check if any games you're particularly interested in are good for it :).

Yeah, I saw it coming, so got all my PSP games digitally from a few years back, but all my old UMDs were retired, poor things.  I sent them to a good home though.

so in a nutshell the only way to get games for the vita is to use the overpriced playstation store ?

You can get Vita games on custom memory cards as well - I've got Uncharted and Gravity Rush that way.  Other than that, aye, the PSN store.  Just like Steam, it's a lot cheaper if you watch the sales.

I'd much rather carry physical copies for Vita games though. Since you know, limited space on the memory cards 'n all, I'd rather keep whatever space I have for media/digital only games.
I've found that prices in retail aren't shockingly bad either, compared to online stores.

I sold mine when I got back from overseas, Hoping in the next 12 months sony start to push it more but was getting bored waiting 6 months for a game.

Also did anyone notice you can finally see vita trophies on the PS3 Trophy list, just noticed yesterday

Aye, the Vita trophies came along in FW 4.30 (and they also moved over to the Playstation network tab, rather than sitting under games - had me right confused for a moment, as I don't look at them all the time, and went to look at something a day or two after the patch and took a little while to find them).

That is off-topic :P.  It's apparently the full Singstar sans the songs you can get on the disk - so people can get the game for free, but then have to download songs from the store.  Not a bad idea, I reckon.  There are some short demo songs as well, so I guess it's also a Singstar demo.  I'm not sure we need it on the XMB though (it'd be nice if we could toggle it off).

at least you paid $300 and get a game with it. i paid $400 without any game when it was released. and even worst, i bought the 3G version when I was in Japan and guess what. it was locked to NTT, making it useless.
