well i finally have netflix, tv in the loungeroom supports it on its own, but the bedroom tv doesn't so i've hooked the ps3 up.  it literally took about 40 minutes to get netflix working on it, can't believe how slow it is.  i still remember how quick they were when they first came out, then they added avatars & the xmb got that bit slower, than trophies & all the other useless junk, just killed it.

Yeah, the PS3's definitely aged.  Keep in mind the PS3 is 2006 technology - imagine trying to do something up-to-date on a 2006 tablet or smartphone, it'd probably end about as well.  The rate of change seems to be slowing down now, which is nice - I remember when PCs were like that - five years and they were obsolete, whereas these days if you're not gaming on them, and they don't break, they're good for over a decade .

pcs have never been obsolete in 5 years, i still see & use plenty of machines running xp & they perform their tasks perfectly.  the ps3 is an incredibly powerful piece of hardware, it's just unfortunate it's now so weighed down with bloated software it can barely load its own operating system to play a movie in a timely fashion.

well back on the ps3, it's just sh!t itself.  i remember when trying to use wireless on it back in the day & how fücking sh!t it was for assigning IPs & finding the actual internet connection on a router & it's now doing that in the bedroom.  i've finally got it reconnecting again (it was using an IP not for this network), but now netflix can't connect as i've had to assign the router as also the dns which is also impossible just for the ps3 to see the outside world.  on the verge of throwing the fücking thing out the window.

Back in the late 80s/early 90s they were.  Don't forget early PCs shipped with 512K to 1MB of RAM, and these specs increased quickly and geometrically.  Software written for machines with four times as much RAM just didn't run on earlier models.  It wasn't until the second half of the 90s that the useful life of a PC was longer than 4-5 years.  That said, I agree on the whole PS3 and bloatware thing - they've stuffed the OS far beyond the hardware's design.  Our tablet is a bit like that too - just slow and clunky, because it's trying to run software and an OS it's not really up for.  Commiserations at your pain Graph, may it ease soon .

have it working now, it keeps setting some stupid ip like 269.X.X.X which is impossibro being outside 255, but more so that my network is all standard fare so 192 with my modem at 10.1 etc.  ended up setting everything manually, had to still use weird dns figures which is basically going through the router twice & then through the modem.  was hell frustrating, it's even saying it has a closed nat which is also impossibro as i don't run any firewalls.  piece of crap, slow crap at that.

Haha, well it's living memory for some of us .  Glad to hear you got it sorted, I hope it stays that way for a good, long time .

Since my net is better now I decided to give the free month a trial to see how it is. Also got a chrome cast to stream it to the TV, the HD shows make me hate the SD stuff we get from Foxtel and FTA TV, the clarity is so noticble.

Don't know if it has the content to keep me signed up to it though. Almost any of the movies I might have interest in I've seen, are a few shows I would watch so it might get one month renewal out I of me then cancel after that and see how the library builds.

The Aus Netflix is a bit lackluster. I use a VPN to access the USA netflix pretty easily. I just wish stan and presto would fail so that netflix can acquire their licences

I'm still enjoying it - things like Falling Skies, Spartacus and House of Cards, as well as some of the movies and doccos (and Daredevil ), will keep me going for a while.  That said, the library will definitely want to expand to keep me in for the long haul.  If not, I may well rotate between Netflix, Presto and Stan until one of them comes out on top.
