This popped up on the PS4 this week, and I did a couple of quick Googles and it looks like Netflix finally has an Australian service.  Will probs give the free trial (30 days) a gander and see what it's like - there's a $12/month deal that apparently allows HD streaming to two screens, which sounds like a decent deal, just depends on their catalogue being up to snuff.  Anyone else noticed/have an interest/have any thoughts?

Yeah, I doubt the catalogue will be up to snuff with the US service. Probably won't bother switching over.

netflix looks terrific, i'll be signing up.

- unmetered movies with iinet group (for me on westnet)
- ability to run on 2 devices simultaneously for $12/month  (it's not against the agreement to get say a 4 device service & share the plan with a friend)
- ability to watch all US or overseas content via a VPN (you can use your account while globetrotting to access local content also)
- cheap as chips compared to Austar/Foxtel but with no adverts & anything you want totally on demand (if you pause & return later it remembers where you were up to), plus all content 1080p (or higher)

I've got a funny feeling this is why I got an extra 300Gb from Telstra Axe. 300Gb should cover a month of HD streaming, shouldn't it? Perhaps they're worried existing customers may leave to iiNet for the unmetered Netflix.

I stream a lot. Like, A LOT and I never break cap. Then again we do have the 500Gb plan. Plus yeah, the increase maybe because of that. Gotta bet Foxtel aren't happy right now.

Well that's it - they'd be a bit worried about losing Bigpond customers to iiNet as I said. I'm not into Foxtel (I've had it before [a few times]), and I'm not interested in Netflix either. It's not that it's a bad deal ($12/month) but I probably own most of the movies/shows that I'm interested in anyway.

Guess there's no harm in trialling it though (as Hasan said).

Sounds like a good plan Graph .  I'm deffo going to trial it, and suspect strongly I'll sign up - two devices would suit me and my Missus well.  Just don't need to yet as half way through Star Trek season 4 on blu-ray, but once that's wrapped up, it's Netflix time .

That's a good thought Clowny, I reckon you're on the money .  I'm going to call them up and ask them where my extra 300 GB is .

i believe telstra doubled all the quotas for this, which is pretty poor given they're the most expensive isp & the other guys are all doing quota free for it (& not to mention steam as well).

The only ISP that's doing Netflix unmetered is iiNet as far as I know. I don't think Bigpond would do it as it's in direct competition to Foxtel so instead, they've (for example) given me an additional 300Gb which should cover it I'd say anyway.

Already giving the trial a run, pretty impressed so far. HD streaming works really well for me, and that extra 300gb that Telstra has come up with helps with the extra bandwidth.

The catalogue has a fair breadth of content, I'm sure they'll be adding more and more shows and movies as the months roll on to keep people subscribed. Give it a look with the free trial to see if it is something you'd be prepared to pay for.

Yeah, i have been using it everyday so far. The quality is great and doesn't stutter at all. The selection isn't too bad either. There are a fair few Tv shows that i want to watch on it. Just needs a bigger selection of movies etc. The only thing i dislike thus far (this is on the ps4), is that i can't see the categories in full. So i can see everything that's on there at once. Other than that though, really liking the service. May wait a few months before taking the plunge though.

Optus and iinet (+ affiliate isp's) are unmetered so its all good for me on iinet

Foxtel was a waste for me, theres a shitload I never got around to watching due to it being on > 10pm for me so I have like 80+ things qued up..and bare in mind more will be added, this is a good launch and pretty much all I've been doing after work is watching netflix lol

Giving the 1 month trial a go on the ps4. For those curious if downloaded 10-15 gigs last night watching 2-3 movies

The quality is pretty good for a streaming service. At times you can notice it automatically downgrade resolution to cope and pixelation is noticeable in black areas of an image/video

I find that it starts off at a shitty resolution sometimes and then buffers and goes up to 1080p within a few seconds. Haven't had it go back down after it hit 1080p though. I guess it would be based on each individuals connection. If you press R3 whilst it is playing, it will give you some details about the content you are watching, like resolution etc.

Gave this a run over this week and was crazy impressed, reckon the only thing it's missing is the option to wait to buffer until it hits 1080p, rather than have the first few seconds all blurred up, but for $12/month the range of content is very, very good.  Very impressed early .  Free trial works like a charm as well, although I can't imagine us not staying with it.  Not sure what black magic they're using to deliver what they do for the price, but it's good magic!

On more Netflixy goodness - the new Daredevil TV show seems to have popped up in the last few days.  Haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but heard good things from a mate.

It's a cool show if you're into that kinda stuff, I binge watched all 13 episodes over the past few days

Yeah, there's a few cringe worthy moments for sure. They probably could've told the story in a 10 episode season too (some filler here and there), but on the whole it's a pretty solid first season.
