The Halo Journey

Any time you transition to a new platform, there is the opportunity to look at things with a new perspective. For us at 343 Industries, the launch of the Xbox One was an opportunity to think about what stories we wanted to tell, how to tell them, and how best to push the “Halo” franchise to showcase the platform. And, most importantly, combining our passion for “Halo” with the vocal and informative input from our fans.

“Halo” isn’t simply a perennial game franchise, it’s a part of the Xbox platform itself. In terms of innovation and ideation, it’s sometimes important to people who might not even play “Halo.” And of course it’s a passion and an essential experience for two generations of gamers.  So we asked ourselves, how do we begin and where do we go with “Halo” on Xbox One?

In the past, “Halo” games have pushed the Xbox forward, showcasing the console and its ecosystem in entertaining and innovative ways. Making a “Halo” game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial.  It’s a task that we, at 343 Industries, are taking very seriously to ensure we deliver the “Halo” game that fans deserve, and a game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One.

I’m happy to reveal that “Halo 5: Guardians,” the next installment in the legendary saga of the Master Chief, will launch on Xbox One in fall of 2015.  In the tradition of every “Halo” game since its debut in 2001, it is a massive and exciting project.

“Halo 5: Guardians” is a bigger effort than “Halo 4.”  That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what’s now a brand new and more powerful engine.  Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we’ve invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen.

It’s a game that will hopefully demonstrate the talent, learnings and abilities of the 343 Industries team. A game that will incorporate the things we learned from “Halo 4” about technology, aesthetics, performance and scale – and perhaps more importantly, understanding and embracing a community of gamers who love what lies at the heart of this game, and the limitless potential of the “Halo” universe.

And 2015 won’t simply be the year of “Halo 5: Guardians,” it will also be a year that offers us a unique opportunity. The opportunity to invite old friends and new audiences into that universe through the “Halo” television series, launched as a unique collaboration with Steven Spielberg and some of the finest creative minds in the business.  A series that will stand alone, as well as complement and enrich the game experience.  We’ll have more to share on the “Halo” television series as we near its projected fall 2015 release.

Your Journey Begins in 2014

Many fans noted that I was very deliberate with my phrasing on stage at E3 last year. I spoke about a “journey,” rather than a destination – and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step. We’ll give you much more information about our plans for this year at the Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing on June 9, and we’re confident that “Halo” fans will be pretty excited about the special plans we have in store.

So until E3, I’d like to express my gratitude to our massive and varied Halo community, whose energy, enthusiasm, criticism and kindness are the driving force behind what we do and what we hope to achieve in “Halo 5: Guardians.”

Nice - as per the 360, this'll likely be the game that gets me to getting around to getting one, the Halo games just have a great vibe to 'em B).  Thanks for the info Spec :D.

Rumours are now suggesting a "Master Chief Collection" which would be Halo's 1, 2, 3 and 4 all HD'd and released as a single pack on X1.....NOW THAT WOULD BE AWWWWEEEEEESOOOOMMMMMMEEEE!!

Well there was no MC in Reach, hence its not in there or ODST or WARS.

But yeah imagine the amount of replay value - just the campaigns would keep me busy for a fair while.....sooooo cool to go through all the achieve's again :)

So I'll be seeing you on an X1 soon Axe lol

Haha, that'd be right!  Sorry, that was one of my dopier comments . The unbundled Kinect and this are definitely very tempting (one of the reasons I wanted Kinect unbundled was that it would mean games wouldn't force us to use it if we didn't want to, but also because I suspect I'd never use it).  Campaign's would be about 40 hours of gameplay and would go nicely :D.  Still a shame they didn't include Reach though, was a top game B).

Hey they've gotta save some for another box set later - Non-MC Set lol.  I would love an ODST 2.
We'll I'm now the proud owner of an X1 - and its great.
the UI and Party Chat are not as good as the 360 currently, but man - I've set the IR blaster (built into kinect) to my gaming TV.....I can walk past the room and call out Xbox On - and it powers up my TV and auto tuns to X1 HDMI.....I can turn them off simply by saying Xbox Off too - its a nice touch.....time to play around with the DVR, Clip editing and direct uploading to youtube.....my new toy.

Keen to see more on this - thankfully a beta test end of the year.
So who's the extra male character?
Notice there's a reflection of an Elite in his helmet at one segment of the clip - what does that signify?
Is he a Forerunner perhaps?

For those interested.........WTF am i saying, Everyone's interested in this Posted Image

The Halo 5: Guardians beta will kick off Dec. 29 and run for three weeks, developer 343 Industries announced today during Microsoft's Gamescom 2014 press briefing.

Four-on-four arena combat is the focus of the beta, with all players starting with the same loadout. Seven maps, three modes and 11 weapons, along with a few armor sets for customization, will be available to try. By playing the beta, people will be able to unlock content that will carry over into the full game. According to 343, the beta will run at 60 frames per second and will use dedicated servers. Players will be able to provide beta feedback through the Halo Channel, an interactive network that will be available Nov. 11 on Xbox One and Windows 8.1 devices.

"Having a beta this early this early in development is crucial because it gives us as developers the opportunity to react to the feedback we get from fans and take it into account as we complete the multiplayer experience for Halo 5: Guardians," said Josh Holmes, the game's executive producer.

The Halo 5 beta is set to end Jan. 18, 2015. Access is included in copies of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which arrives Nov. 11 on Xbox One. Halo 5 itself is scheduled to be available in fall 2015.

All I can say is WOW - How much value are we getting in the Halo:MCC, and how much content in this beta?? AWESOME!!!

How can there possibly be a Halo 5 thread, with NO responses for nearly 12 months?? Especially in light of recent info.

Come on guys who's grabbing it?

Sorry Soul, my bod's slowed down a bit, and games like Halo I can only manage in short bursts very intermittently, so while I've half an eye on what's going on (but I'm afraid I missed the most recent news), I'm not really in the market for it (same reason my interest in the XB1 has waned, the PS4 doesn't get near as much of a run now, and it's only for the slower paced stuff, no Planetside 2 for me).  Now, if they made a turn-based strategy game or a slow-paced RPG in the Halo universe, I'm there ;).  What I've seen has looked very good B).
