Dead Space fans, start readying up your Stasis Packs because EA has announced that the Dead Space 3 Demo will be coming the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on January 22nd, 2013. The Demo will feature the new co-op option for you and a friend to play in as you fight through the countless Necromorphs together.

Xbox 360 players can register on the Dead Space 3 Demo Page for information detailing how to access the demo as early as January 15th, but must hurry, as limited quantities are available. (At the moment, this only seems to be available for users in the U.S, Canada and the U.K).

Quote

TAKE DOWN THE TERROR TOGETHER

Isaac Clarke returns, joined by merciless soldier John Carver, to chase a risky plan that promises to finally stop the Necromorphs. Together Clarke and Carver must explore the frozen planet of Tau Volantis and track down the secret they hope will end the Necromorph plague forever, all while overcoming avalanches, treacherous ice-climbs, and the violent wilderness. Facing deadlier evolved enemies and brutal elements, the unlikely pair must work together to save mankind from the impending apocalypse.

The Demo

The Dead Space 3 demo features a customised portion of Tau Volantis, the hostile ice planet that is the setting for Act II of Dead Space 3.  Players can expect new Necromorphs, weapons crafting, epic action-moments, and a thrilling atmosphere and everything else they love about Dead Space in the demo.  The Demo can be enjoyed both in single-player mode or with a friend using drop-in / drop-out co-op.  Co-op is online only while only Public matches will be supported in the demo.

The Dead Space 3 demo has a separate Weapon Crafting Arena, where you can begin to explore the thousands of deadly weapon combinations that are available in Dead Space 3.

Dead Space 3 will be available on February 5th in North America and February 8th in Europe for the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC.

For more information about the Dead Space 3 Demo, check out the FAQs from EA Help.

The Co-op is online-only, I don't think DS3 supports local co-op unfortunately.

The Dead Space 3 FAQs say that you can "play the full campaign in online co-op or single player" with the "easy drop-in and drop-out play (feature)".

Haha, it's optional though. I think you can choose to play the classic, Isaac-only Single player campaign, or choose to play it with the online Co-op feature where the story and probably the gameplay would change a bit more because you have a new partner. It sounds like a really interesting concept .

I know, but I would rather them take the time and resources for the co-op an have it put into the SP.

Co-op has more cut-scenes with John Carver, you learn more about him and also has parts where you have to protect John while he is freaking out or something. John will still pop up at parts during single player I think, but these will be short.
