Some new rumors about DICE's upcoming shooter Battlefield 4 has made its way to the internet, apparently leaked directly from an EA Internal Conference which showcased an alpha version of Battlefield 4. Some of it is pretty obvious like the game will be built using DICE's FrostBite 2 engine. These are just rumors and not confirmed facts so I wouldn't read too much into it.
  • Battlefield 4 Will be built on FrostBite 2, using 80% of the engines power. (Battlefield 3 only managed to use 30% - 40%)
  • Will be released on all current and next gen platforms. PS3, XBOX360, PC, PS4, XBOX720.
  • 60 FPS & 64 Players on next-gen consoles (PS4 and XBOX720)
  • Support 3 Factions. Russia, US and China.
  • Include female characters in SP and playable female characters in MP.
  • Modern day warfare setting.
  • Battlelog will return, improved with new features such video sharing and integration with other devices ie Smartphones / Tablets.
  • Battle-recorder to make a return (recording gameplay)
  • Commander mode will also be making a return.
Some info on the next DLC for Battlefield 3 (End Game) were also revealed - Including 4 new maps, new vehicles like motorbikes, new weapons and new game modes (possible Air Warfare game mode).

Some interesting rumours:).  Would be good if they gave us some really large-scale battles - done well they can be great, and MAG's still my most-played FPS by a huge margin.  That said, most important thing they need to sort is the matchmaking, party system and private rooms.  Get all that working, and it'll be awesome :).

they said battle recorder would make it into BF3 - shall have to wait and see if that actually works out for DICE

Would think releasing this to Ps3/360 would be a bad idea. Look how much Bf3 struggled on these consoles and this ones going to be even bigger :/

Yeah but not everyone is going to be getting PS4/XBOX720's day one - besides this way EA makes more money lol. Cant stop support for current gen consoles so quickly they still have some life left.

Yeah they did say it would be patched in but didn't happen. Oh well it doesn't bother me if it gets released for PS3/X360 since i'll be getting it on the PS4 anyway - and PC, if i have a new pc by then.

I am only against it because it takes time away from them working on it for the next gen consoles. I mean for bf3 they had to manage their time between three platforms and did an average job of it in my opinion. Imagine what it will be like for DICE when they have to manage 5 platforms

Yeah that is true but i'm sure they've got more teams working on it. I read somewhere that they have a bigger team now and the main team is working on the next gen. There is also a chinese team helping out with the China faction apparently.

As long as its not rushed and the game has all features released at launch and none of this "patched in later" crap. They will be recycling most of BF3 anyway.

It'll be a lot easier for them now that they've got the core engine up and running, and I'm sure they'll budget appropriately for team size and stuff to make sure they've got enough people working on each version.  There's lots of flexibility in outsourcing components and stuff as well - it's less the size of the project, but how well it's managed.  But Straussy's point about the difference between rumoured (or even promised) features and final products is sensible.  That said, I think the strong competition from CoD will keep pushing them to improve.

I would prefer to see a this-gen-console BFBC3 and save BF4 for the next-gen era.   There was just something with BFBC2 that gave it an edge of BF3 for me.

Yep, 100% of Frostbite 1 is better than 30% of Frostbite 2 :)

I prefer FrostBite 2 overall but it definitely needs more destruction! Will just have to wait and see what they bring us.

I do miss Arica Harbor CQ and my 40MM Shotgun attachment.

I hear ya, FB2 has seriously good potential, they just need a platform to exploit it which doesnt require me owning a PC :)

Sky-rises, bridges, cranes . .  bring on complete destruction!

Yeah cannot wait to see what they'll bring to BF4 in terms of destruction. Looking forward to the earthquakes in the Aftermath DLC. Can you imagine the level of destruction you described + earthquakes!?
