well yesterday we passed a milestone guys, the official launch of GG & i want to take a moment to thank you all.
we had the launch 'day' set as the 25th, but we kinda turned it into a launch couple of days, but that was probably a good thing due to web24 going down at some point (they're our webhost, but it wasn't due to our specific server being overloaded but a nationwide web24 issue).
so where are we at ? well we have;
80 members - absolutely fantastic & thanks so much for everyone's support !
a new content member - i_live_4_fun will be updating our PS+ content, welcome aboard mate
36 people on at one time - i can't get over this, i personally was hoping for 2 dozen, but 3 dozen is exceptional !
support from both 6A & ESL - thank you sadistic_freak & madrtr for taking the time out to see what GG is about & providing us with news on what's happening in the local comp-scene.
personally i'm declaring our launch a success & it's thanks to all of you who have come in early & given us that boost. from here i'm hoping we can continue down a fairly straight path & achieve a few more milestones, some of them include;
getting GG self sufficient - right now this site has cost a bit of money, all generously donated by staff & members. the intention is to repay those donors & then self fund GG via the annoying ads you see on each page. not only do we hope they'll self fund the site, but also provide prizes for free to enter competitions (if/when we reach this point i'll be declaring the whole GG concept as a success)
providing prizes - as touched on before we want to provide prizes for the majority of our events, if not all, even have random draws etc in future & all without a cost to the members (we want this place totally open to everyone). so we're hoping the ads along with any sponsors we can secure will provide these things (we're contacting sponsors but have yet to have any come on board)
expanding on the games we play - we're hoping to build a member base here that is large enough to branch off into lesser played games & run events on them.
i'm glad to say also the site itself totally exceeds anything we set out to create. initially we looked at just doing a bog install of some forum type software, change the logo at the top & then go live lol. well thanks to some very determined & clever people we have what stands before you;
Gasclown - responsible for the design of everything from the article layouts to the GG logo & branding. no doubt you can see from the quality of his work he's a professional designer so it's no accident.
Outlaw - a code monkey who either takes broken things & fixes them, or finds things we need & builds them from scratch.
Axe - i'm not sure what his specialty is, but during the course of creating GG he taught himself HTML, CSS & PHP & it still astounds me. part way through the build outlaw went globetrotting & axe did an amazing job of finishing the site. it goes without saying, axe is very 'special' (read into that what you will =P ).
these 3 guys are responsible for all the hands on building of the site. they saw us survive exceeding our host allowance, a migration to a totally different hosting company & even a more recent host failure. but these guys aren't all that made the place go ahead.
we've had tons of support from guys providing advice, money, news content & anything else they can muster. so special thanks to;
- teamsalada, recently had a ton of surgery & still in recovery. once on deck he'll be taking care of CoD events
- jdu, why i thank you is beyond me but i'm sure you once did something positive lol
- oc-138, taking care of a ton of industry contacts & getting us into invite only events, also posts photos of his scrawny arms (they're seriously thin)
- acriu, the eternal lurker & mate from way back. knowledgeable on web things & his help is always greatly appreciated
- soulfrit, who's probably bobbing around in his pool or cruising around in his girly car. become a bit of a rock for me over the years & helps me get by long days talking about his latest poo at work etc.
- dutch, vying to set up some non-fps titles here for comp & will be involved in managing the SS
- straussy, bringing us news directly from invite only events on the latest games
- insanity, as per straussy, mates in real life both attending the events together & getting cool stuff for free the lucky buggers
- poseidon, bringing us CoD elite news updates & challenges, keep an eye out for these as they'll be pretty sweet come BO2 (you no longer need elite premium, yay !!!)
- oridin, our 'special adviser' lol, has been pushing behind the curtain for certain things to be done or rectified. one of the many hands that makes light work.
without doubt i've missed someone & if i have i apologise, been so many people prepared to give their time & expertise it's incredible.
anyway this was a lot more long winded than i expected. onward & upward for GG & congrats on a successful launch guys.
