Gran Turismo Sport announced at Paris Games Week
Kazunori Yamauchi reveals the first GT title for PS4, coming 2016

Racing fans, brace yourselves – this afternoon at the Paris Games Week PlayStation Press Conference, Kazunori Yamauchi, along with SCEE CEO & President Jim Ryan, unveiled on stage the latest Gran Turismo iteration:GT Sport, coming to PS4 in 2016.

On stage, the Polyphony team talked about the advances that the PS4 offers to allow them to continue to improve the graphics, physics and sound to deliver the most realistic driving simulator to date. But with GT Sport they’re looking to deliver more than that; to deliver a revolution in the way that people experience driving games, a figurative “rebirth” of motorsports.

FIA Gran Turismo Championships
In Gran Turismo Sport, there will be two online championships officially sanctioned by the FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) running simultaneously. In the Nations Cup, players will be able represent their home country. Whilst in the Manufacturers Cup, players will be driving on behalf of their favorite car manufacturer.

Players will not only be able to race as drivers themselves, they’ll also be able to root for their home country or their favorite manufacturers teams.

The winner of the championship will be awarded in the same manner as real life motorsports champions, at the FIA prize giving ceremony. This will be a historic moment, the first time a video game will officially be recognised as part of the real motoring world.

FIA Partnership
Working alongside the historic FIA, to develop a game that continues to be more realistic and authentic, the online racing championships promise to offer something new for players.

But it’s not just about online racing; the GT teams have continued to build on the games legacy of accessibility to ensure that the game is open to all to enjoy.

With the beta expected to begin in Spring 2016, it won’t be long before players can experience all GT has to offer on the power of the PS4.

Cheers Spec, that's a decent bit of gaming news :D.  The partnering with the FIA and having some kind of formalised online championship sounds pretty cool.  Will be interesting to see whether they're going to spruce up the single-player game though.

Really hope they're all premium cars and tracks.

Bah, I hope it's got some retro 8-bit cars and 16-bit tracks :P.

OK, not serious.  I agree, I think it's time for consistency of approach.  The old standard cars would look pretty rough compared with premium on PS4 in any event.

Yeah, I think that was one of the major flaws with GT over the PS3 era - consistency.

i loved gran turismo, but iirc the actual game engine is broken is they want to make a proper sim with realistic damage, tyre pressures etc, meaning the game needs remaking from the ground up yet again.  wasn't gt5 delayed by 6 odd years or something when they redid it all ? was majorly frustrating as it was meant to be a ps3 launch title & they kept doing it over & over as they were taking so long that all other games had taken the next step meaning they had to redo again.  a real lack of vision behind it imo.

Cheers Super-Spec B).  That's a slick looking trailer (the visuals and physics look superb).  I just hope they've given the gameplay a bit of spit and polish as well.  I really enjoyed GT5, but there's deffo room for innovation.

If they can throw in the physics and force feedback from Assetto Corsa, I'll be back... otherwise it's goodbye GT.

Is this a full featured game or a stop gap before GT7 is finished?

Memory's a little hazy, but pretty sure it's a stopgap.  Wouldn't be right if it was a simple "this is a new GT for a new generation" release, don't think they've done that yet!

Yeah - tough call... they could make it expandable and just build on it through expansions. It seems to be a little more rich in content and features than the usual Prologue but still a lot less than a fully featured GT. I still don't see the massive step forward I'd hoped for and Forza still being the better over-all game (comparing just those two).

But as I've said previously, after playing Assetto Corsa now - it's leaps and bounds beyond anything both those games will ever be (driving-wise). It's a pity that it's not so full of content (tracks and cars)... particularly for those with consoles as there's no mod support. I've got over 80 tracks now (not including their alternate tracks) and downloaded an additional 20+ cars - (pretty much) all of which are on par with the developers level of quality... particularly some of the cars... the Formula Renault 3.5 2014 now being my favourite of the lot. Driving that around Mugello is a match made in heaven.

But if you don't have a wheel (for starters), then what's the point in playing any of them (my opinion of course).

GT Sport Will Not Feature Dynamic Time or Weather

“We opted to not have the transitions in the race this time in order to raise the framerate and the quality of the image *during* the race. So the user will be able to set that before they enter the race. So you’ll still be able to have night races, morning, races at dawn, dusk, and so on.”

Source: GTPlanet

Kinda sucky don't care too much for it missing in the shorter races but for the longer races in GT5/6 having the light and weather be able change added so much. It was so noticeable the difference in enjoyment in long races between tracks that have and tracks that didn't have the dynamic weather and TOD.

Aye, always sad when pretty pictures take priority over gameplay.  Long MP races with changing time and weather were epic in GT5 (I think, memory hazy) were epic, some of my favourite moments with the game.

Gran Turismo Sport | E3 2016 gameplay trailer | PS4

Environments looking much better compared to PS3 entries they really are pushing this online league stuff though, I am reading it wont have much in the way of offline racing progression like previous entries and online racing is the main focus(guess that's why its not a numbered entry). It is good to see a livery editor in the series now.
I do fear like Street Fighter 5 they are focusing too much on the online and it will harm how well they game will do as SF5 has been hammered for focusing on the competitive players which are obliviously a small group and as such hasn't sold quite as well as you would think a Street Fighter would.

Aye, I think the online crowd tend to make the most noise, but that the number of offline sessions for most (but not all) games is still pretty high.  Am sure it'll be a good online racer at least.

Well not exactly surprising but it's been delayed no new release given so safe to say it's no longer releasing this year.

An update on Gran Tursimo Sport
