A bit knackered still, so I'll leave it to the vid to describe this one, beyond saying I've seen a couple of the video dev diaries and this one looks like it has a lot of potential :)

That looks fantastic Axe - fingers crossed it's the Sim City we've all been waiting for.

Played about ten hours of this so far, and I'm really enjoying it :).  I haven't played a lot of city-builders in recent years outside of Tropico, as I heard so many bad things about SimCity and Cities XL (XXL, etc;) that I let them go through to the keeper (although I was planning to give SimCity a look, before Skylines was announced).  There's a heap to learn - it's only into my third city that I've got things running reasonably - and the simulation seems to be very robust.  They even dynamically simulate water, which was the reason for the untimely demise of my second city, when I built a hydroelectric dam at a poorly considered location.....

Yes, that's the main drag of my first city, and a good proportion of the key residential zones, underwater, lol .  I recommend saving before building one's first dam!

Now that I've played a bit more, it's fairly straightforward to keep everyone happy and the money rolling in, but there is a 'hard' mode for people looking for a challenge, and there's a map editor, so you can build whatever terrain you'd like to challenge yourself with.  The cities themselves are potentially very big - the dashed lines on either side of the main built-up area are one tile, and you can have up to nine (unlocked as you go, although you can toggle everything unlocked from the get-go if you'd like) in your city (so in the above pic, the area with houses is less than one-ninth of a city).
