The best way to say 'Happy New Year' is with a database backup restoration....

As per the subject line, our server get itself in a tangle overnight, and needed the database restored (well, I think).  Hopefully all should be alright now, but my apologies for the death of the 'Happy New Year' thread (first person to start a new one gets a cookie :)).  Sorry for the interruption and Happy New Year everyone :).

No worries mate - not really something you can deal with on NYD/N... I wasn't round much yesterday and today but did notice it was offline very late last night. Hopefully didn't bother you too much Axe.

It wasn't too bad, probably about an hour of fluffing around in the afternoon, after hoping that the error message I got in the morning was temporary (cheers to Aro for the heads-up over Steam, was a bit knackered so was losing myself in some Civ:Beyond Earth).  Am glad the forced reboot and database restore worked - if it had been worse than that, I'm not entirely sure what the next step would have been .

Happy New Year everyone :D. I made a previous post in the old thread, which is gone now, so....

Here's hoping that everything goes well or even better than planned for all this year. Does anyone have any New Year's resolutions so far? Mine are to eat a lot less meat, make gaming time quality time (i.e. Trying out and spending time on a bigger variety of games and less over-grinding in Destiny :P), and working on GG more :).

Not really. I'm just hoping that work keeps busy. Put a tonne of hours in last year and the efforts were starting to show so I really don't want to slack off. Gotta start to get into a rhythm of including exercise into my daily routine again as well, I definitely slacked off on that department, even after I bought a bike which I rode for probably a month but simply was too focused on working which is a problem. I think it's a bit too hot at the moment though, it's very hilly where I live (hence why it's called the Hills District), so might wait for it to cool down a tad. I guess also finding some more time to game but that's really up to how good the games turn out and if they live up to expectations.

Nice resolutions/goals Live/Clowny B).  I'm not really a New Year's Resolution person, although if someone was inferring resolutions from my behaviour, they might have guessed my resolution was 'to play a lot of Civilization: Beyond Earth in the early weeks of 2015' :).

No idea, in one of the CP's, the CPU usage went off the charts (for us) late on the 1st, stayed high until I rebooted, but once rebooted the database was corrupt so needed to do a back restore.  My best guess is that something got itself tied up in knots and brought everything down, but as to the specifics of that, you'd probably get more sense out of a drunken walrus than me.  All being well, it's a one off and just 'one of those things'.  We had something odd happen in April last year, and then everything was fine until now.
