think i already mentioned it but an archer with the heal spell ability is a good idea.  i ended up with 2 archers (you can recruit one later), my warrior & a mage (you recruit him too, both the archer & mage you recruit real early too).

for some reason the bows become the most powerful weapons in the game, stats-wise you find 2 that come with massive stats you can boost further & the special abilities with the bow are massively powerful as well.

I started with an enchantress with the heal spell so that's done. Same thing (ranged) but she also has teleportation and my main dude is a knight so I'll just teleport the bastards to him and he can annihilate whatever comes in his path as he's built that way (to deal with multiple enemies at once).

I'll be honest though - I'm playing it on easy (I usually play RPGs on hard) so I can finish the game quicker (because of its length).

there's 2 teleports, one will inflict damage & the other doesn't, so you can mix it up by teleporting them to him & injure them, or him to them & not injure him.  you can use them with the environment too, so if the ground is electrified, burning or poisoned you can drop the baddies on it too.

My teleport does both (inflicts and teleports). Usually (at least at the very early beginnings) kills them before my knight could give them a slogging. It's good because my enchantress can keep her distance and the knight can get right in amongst the action and take a good beating. She can then heal him if necessary. If any enemy gets close to her, then she'll just teleport the enemy back to the knight.

I've done the little tutorial section so all the environmental effects I understand now too but yeah, definitely using the teleport for other things other than just battle - also moving objects to contain traps and even treasure chests in hard to reach places. I definitely took my time creating the two characters.

Anyway, slow going - so many pots, boxes and little things (which are barely visible) to scavenge. haha.

Gave up on that murder quest... I 'think' I'm nearly there though (without giving anything away) but I've been slogging at it for the last 4-5 hours!!

don't be ashamed to read an ign walkthrough in places, as you said the game doesn't hold your hand at all !!

re. the teleports, what i meant is that there's actually 2 teleport skills you'll unlock.  one is the one you have at the start, where it'll teleport an enemy & damage them when they land, the other though does no damage & you can use it to teleport allies to places you can't reach or even send them into the battle (ie. a good way to save AP on your knight as you can take him to the enemy so he can use all his AP just for swinging his sword).

that jake's murder quest goes for ages though btw, it basically links you up with other quests & areas & won't be finished for ages, so make a point of getting distracted from it & pursuing other bits.

I doubt I'd do that unless I was furiously stuck on something. I've always been making progress albeit getting sidetracked like trying to find the library (which took a bloody while) for that book about death (or whatever it's called)... you know, where you dig up that dude in the graveyard... that's what got me looking for that. Still got a shitload of quests to do in that town. I tend to like to do things systematically, if I do however get bored in the town (which I eventually will) I'll venture out and come back to it later with a fresh approach.

I've been stealing a lot of paintings in the process... haha.

some of the switches & stuff i don't see it being possible to find them, they're literally maybe 3 pixels x 2 pixels & not in places you'd ever think of looking ... & there's often 5 of them you need to click ... in a particular order ...

Like the one behind the fucking ham in the basement/cellar? Fucking lucky I was checking everything... was trying my hardest to get into that room. I could see it but there was no fucking door... until...

this one here is the size that i'm talking about, can't remember if it's the same as the one you're talking about but they're in a lot of places.

but even the big levers or the large round switches on the ground are hidden in insane spots in some of the areas, drove me nuts.

Oh hey - I'm finding it very difficult to find keys sometimes, they are bloody small as well, plenty of times I've missed them and found them on a second sweep.

It's not that room (can't really make out what it is) - it's a part of the murder mystery, where you get the key to that ladies house (that's behind her shop) and go into her cellar (down a ladder) and there's a secret room that you can see but can't get into (well you can, but you know what I mean)... the button is hidden behind hanging pork/meat which you need to remove to reveal it.

if there are items on the ground hold option/alt & it highlights them all, that'll reveal the keys etc but not the switches.  other handy keys are control to force attack an object, V to rotate the camera & that's all i can think of atm.

remember too if you can see somewhere but can't get to it you can somehow, just need to think about it.  do you have the 2 pyramids yet ?  once you have them you can teleport between them & you can throw them too, so that opens up massive possibilities, also don't forget you can teleport with your spell as that gets you to things as well (or brings them to you as you already know).

Yeah - been doing that mate. Also use the wheel button on my mouse to rotate the camera. Bashed down a couple of doors and chests but it wears away your weapon so I just use shitty weapons that I'd picked up.

you'll pick up some unbreakable weapons at some point, another trick is to make sure every character you have carries a repair hammer or tongs as rings/amulets/armor etc will inevitably give them another blacksmithing to repair their own stuff (so basically your blacksmith you build up will only be used to upgrade or make weapons from scratch).

Yeah only had just found my first repair hammer (late yesterday) but neither of my characters have the ability to do/use it yet. Still early days.

Ended up starting it again - mind you, I'll be able to do what I had already done far quicker this time now that I know my way around (and what to do).

just finished rage, took about 10 hours of play i'm guessing doing most sideline bits.

for me the game is a 6/10, had a huge potential but pretty big failure in my eyes.

pros;
- quite nice graphics
- huge environments
- vehicles complete with racing
- basic crafting
- fairly ok enemy AI early on
- starts off feeling like borderlands crossed with fallout 3

cons:
- mundane quests & storyline
- frustrating enemies, later in the game they go from being quite reasonable to just rushing with too much health
- did i mention it was mundane ?

forgot to mention, you get to the second area & before it really start it's over, it's as if they ran out of time or money to complete the game & had to just add an ending.  felt so ripped off.

Witcher 2, should've been a 9/10 but only a 7/10, here's why:

crafting - pretty close to pointless.  most items can be easily purchased in the world & those you need to craft are fairly pointless also, rarely being used unless you have to for a mission or if it's for a boss fight.  also using the blacksmith is a pain in the rear, adds another step to crafting weapons & armour which once again are easily purchased anyhow.

ending - far too abrupt, didn't even realise i was at the ending.  i guess that's due to it being an ongoing storyline but still.

boss fights - started off VERY hard for me but became ridiculously easy by the end of the game as character level & equipment improved.

quit to desktop bug - it's actually listed on CDP's website so why don't they just patch it ?  honestly disgraceful.

reasons it should've been a 9/10:

storyline - it's terrific, really drew me in but like i said abrupt ending so didn't go out with a bang

characters - each had an excellent personality, really really well scripted

boobs - see them on my steam screenshots thingy

world - borderline awesome !

real pity it finished up like it did & the other issues, still a great game but not anything extreme.
