Hey guys, me and my partner are looking to get another ps3, so we can game at the same time and to just have another around incase the current 40gig phat dies which seems likely considering how noisy it runs. I'm wondering about the 2 slim models, interested in your thoughts? Been searching around on the internet and reading lots of conflicting opinions, like noise levels. Some say the super slim is the quietest model yet, others the loudest :S

I am leaning toward the super slim as it's the most readily available, even read that it uses the least power but, things I've been reading that the disc drive runs really loudly for instance are making me wonder if the original slim model isn't the better option if I can find it.

i'm perfectly happy with my regular slim, but if i was buying i reckon i'd get the super slim.  mate at work has the super slim & his only gripe is the drive noise when watching movies.  we have 2 sony bluray players at home (other than the ps3) & one is a regular size & one is really small (about the size of the super slim ps3).  the really small one is pretty darn loud during quiet scenes of movies & pretty distracting.

i guess if you want it for movies it might be better to get a regular slim, but if for gaming just get the super slim.

Took the plunge today. $288 from EB Super Slim 500GB with Batman Lego 2 and Heavenly Sword thrown in. Not a bad deal at all I think.

I remembered back to using the slim PS2 more and the disc reading sounds I would hear from that. Figured it surely can't be that bad and my girl agreed saying I was stressing way too much :S
We'll see how it gets on. Most likely will be mostly using digital games as a 2nd console anyways.

Cheers for the help GraphicX
