So i finished this yesterday, and completely disagree with the score. I would probably give it a 7.5-8.0. The thing is though, once you finish it, there is no point in going back to it. Really did enjoy it though, glad that i picked it up.
Just finished it then and completely agree that the gaming media more broadly completely shanked this (like they're shanking more and more things). Overall, I really enjoyed it. I actually don't mind replaying my story-based games, particularly ones that aren't too long (although I did replay Dragon Age: Origins, twice!), and this was easily enjoyable enough for me to shelve for six to twelve months and give another run through.
Personally, I'd rate it an 8.5, with marks taken off for the story arc not quite working smoothly to the ending (it's a little sudden) and some of the controls/animations being a little clunky at times (the two 'boss battles' had controls that didn't feel 'smooth'), but the gunplay was great (many of the weapons felt unique, something hard to achieve in this day and age of everyone having played a bajillion shooters before they've driven a car), the AI was solid (but standard, not outstanding), the story was excellent (in my opinion, but appreciation of a story is a fairly personal thing), the acting excellent, the sound excellent and the visuals the best I've seen anywhere.
It wasn't a long game by any stretch (a dash under eight and a half hours for me to finish, and I'm a slow gamer, so I'd say seven and a half hours for your average gamer maybe?), but it was about the standard length for a third-person shooter/story campaign, and is about how long I spent in the single-player parts of Gears of War 1 and 2, SOCOM 4, Call of Duty 3, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus and a bunch of other games, so it's hardly an inappropriate length for a game - but if you need to make your dollars go the distance in terms of gaming time, then wait for it to be a little cheaper (it's a SP-only game, so it'll be relatively quick into the used game stores in any event). I highly recommend it to fans of story-based action games, it really is a genuinely good game, and consider that it was put together by a team that had never done a full console release before, for them to put together what they did is very, very impressive.
Anyways, that's enough of me rambling on, and at least with me finishing my playthrough it might stop me spamming the screenshot thread for a little while
