inFAMOUS: Second Son announced for PlayStation 4

Want details? Sure thing…

Delsin Rowe is the star of Second Son, and you probably know someone like him… A 24 year-old who is absolutely convinced he’s destined for greatness; though so far that greatness has managed to elude him. He grew up just outside Seattle, where his great – if accidental – calling comes crashing into his life.
After rescuing occupants from a fiery bus wreck, he discovers that he suddenly has the ability to direct, manipulate and even transform into… smoke. Could he have absorbed this power from one of the passengers he pulled from the wreckage?

Setting the scene… It’s been seven years since the Cole McGrath episodes and the world has clearly changed. Anyone showing signs of being a so-called “bio-terrorist” is immediately handed over to the Department of Unified Protection (DUP) – a government agency created to ensure there is never a repeat of the catastrophic events of Empire City and New Marais. So Delsin, who has never been particularly respectful of authority, finds himself caught in the DUP dragnet… and decides he’s not going to go quietly.

Along the way, Delsin is going to ask questions that are not just relevant to the world of Second Son – but to the world we all live in today – a world where we are often instructed to surrender our freedoms to help improve our security. Ben Franklin once wrote “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Is he right?

As you play Second Son, you’ll explore lots of Seattle’s familiar landmarks. As with all games in this series, the path the gameplay and story take will depend on the decisions you make along the way. And, of course, we are creating all these characters and locations at a remarkable level of detail – made possible by PlayStation 4.

In fact this trailer was produced in-house using our game engine – can you tell we’re having fun with the new GPU, tools, and our new VFX system?

Has soon as I saw this I though of the ending for the Evil choice on inFamous 2.

Will be interesting to see how Delsin's powers transfer to the controller. Jumping around through the environment like Nix in 2 will be interesting.

Gameplay looks great - really enjoyed the way the first two games played, and with a next-gen lick of paint, I'm sure it'll be awesome :D.

So it's getting 7's and mostly 8's out of 10 - haven't really had time to read every review. Not terrible but it's what I'm expecting for most game releases this gen (especially this early on)... boosted graphics and nothing really pushed beyond that. I really hope we won't be stuck playing the same shit for another 5-7 years. Devs really need to start making some advancements (not just graphically) to keep me entertained or interested.

That sounds consistent with past inFamous games - I haven't got past GG on the net this morning, but will have a gander (I had to go into town to do some odds and sods early, and on the way out dropped into EB to get a PSN voucher, and because some of the things I had to do were before 9, got to EB at about five to and was surprised to find it already open and clearly undew- until the person at the counter asked me if I was there to pick up Infamous).  I'm not getting any full-priced games until later in the year, but really enjoyed the first two inFamous games, so will deffo give this a play then.

8's still a good score. And really, how much difference can there be between an 8 and a 9?

So far have finished the good side of the game, on evil now. Game looks great and feels really smooth. I do however have one issue, climbing up walls in the first 2 Infamous games was pretty much seamless looked like the character was definately imbued with powers. This one however feels like a retarded spider that has been sprayed with a can of Mortein! It's so clunky and crappy, makes me not bother climbing and just focusing on using the new powers to get where I need to. It may be part of the developers evil plan to force you to use the powers to get around the world which in itself is still really fun, but who doesn't like to climb buildings the ol fashioned way?
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee."   Jules Winnfield

I don't think they focused as much on the normal climbing. There are so many quicker ways to get around.
