A leaked image has hit the net of what appears to be an early prototype of the upcoming Playstation 4 controller.

The controller looks to boast a few changes, most notably the rumored screen in the centre of the controller, replacing the PS button, however the PS button on this controller is lower down but still centre on the controller.

The analog sticks are also different, looking to be halfway between the classic Dual Shock design and a new concave design.

The D pad also looks as though it is tighter together, with less gaps than previous controllers, not a big difference but notable.

The top of the controller is not visible in the picture so it can't be known as yet if the triggers have received a design change as well.

However visible at the top of the controller is a glowing light which could be some kind of Move integration?

It has been confirmed that this picture is not the final design of the new controller, which will most likely be revealed at Sony's upcoming event on Feb 20.

I personally think the screen in the controller is a waste of space, time and money on Sony's part. Can a company that hasn't made a profit in 5 years really afford to be spending R&D money on something that is unnecessary?

Seems more plausible than some of the other rumours doing the rounds - I'm personally happy with the DS3, but as long as they make sure the sticks and buttons still work fine, then I'm happy for them to drop whatever other bits and pieces onto it, but as you say Occy, they'd want to keep an eye on costs.

Why does it look like it has a speaker just above the PS button.

Looks like a piece of crap someone built themselves.
Gonna be a massive sigh if that is indeed the new controller, it's fat as bro!

That's what I thought lol, but they'll probably refine and polish it up a lot more before showing off the final version. Hopefully .

That isn't a light reflection on the ps button go grab your controller and have a look at it from the same angle, the white PS logo reflects/distorts or something on the sides of the curved button creating that look that light is shining on it from that angle when it is infact just the logo, sorry I can't explain it well, but that reflection corresponds correctly with the angle of the controller.

I have a controller right in front of me that at that angle regardless of light source has the exact some look on the ps button.
The picture is not fake. It is an early prototype or some modders work.

My guess is its an early prototype, the retail version will be similar but much more streamlined.

Exactly this. The final version won't have this 'cheap' look to it and will be more refined. but this will be pretty close to the final shape

    Some more info at Eurogamer.

Sony if you can afford to shove a move into every controller you sure has hell better be able to afford more than two USB ports.

Here's another leaked photo of the new PS4 controller.

    Posted Image

You can see the audio jack a lot more clearly at the bottom of the controller, the handles look a bit longer (and curvier) than the original DS3, and there are also two small buttons on either side of the touchpad that are possibly the 'Start' and 'Select' buttons.

    Looks pretty cool :D.

Another tidbit of info I read this morning regarding the PS4 in general is that it can run games via streaming as well as normal discs and the streaming service will be used for PS3 games as well.

It is a rumor at this stage but considering Sony bought Gaikai, it would make sense. Good news if it is true.
