I played some of this yesterday and it's so far so very good (for me). In the morning, getting through the tutorial and it felt a lot like a sci-fi version of Borderlands but much more open (and a bit more serious

). There aren't a gazillion pieces of lower tier loot to sift through from enemy drops though (like the white Borderlands 2 ones that most people would ignore anyway, lol) since they mostly only drop ammo, but when you do occasionally find something it mostly seems to be useful to your character or something you would consider using, which I like so far. The controls and UI/menus were good too.
I did some free roaming back in the level 4 area after the turorial/story level and it was okay too. I can see it would be a lot more fun with friends or higher difficulty ones just to explore, do other quests and find better weapons, equipment and level up. I played around there solo for a little while though and it eventually got a bit repetitive especially because the beacon missions were fairly samey in my session.
But.... I tried out the big quest mission later in the evening and it was really intense (like Aro said above). I just joined on some random people and we did our own thing to try and take the bosses down, eventually moving and staying a bit closer together to revive each other. It feels like a big win taking them down

. I might try the shield class next time if I get a chance to see how that goes.
Overall, I really like it so far. It'd be good to try it with a fireteam (party) since randoms seem to come and go in free roam. It says there's up to 6 players you can have in your fireteam when you highlight your name in the Orbit, so that's good. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the story/lore aspect of the game pans out when it releases as well

. Glad I got the PS4 earlier than expected to try it out since Destiny was going to be my system seller
