2nd Runner Up - The Evil Within
The Evil Within promised a return to traditional horror genre a genre that has been dwindling as of late outside of indie devs.
The Evil Within provides a welcomed entry for survival horror fans with sound, enemies and Environment designs will worthy of the Horror genre but graphical issues, poor story/characters give it a good but flawed feel and would be the reason it doesn’t feature any higher than 2nd Runner up.
1st Runner Up - Alien Isolation, Dark Souls II, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Alien Isolation and Creative Assembly had an undesirable position in creating a new entry in the set in the Aliens universe a universe that has been tainted by past games promising but then failing to deliver the same feel as the movies.
Alien Isolation managed to pull it off not only creating a respectable entry into the survival horror genre but being able to capture the atmosphere and fear from the movies and make the game believable within in the Aliens universe. It manages to redeem and repair the damage done to the Aliens videogame name by Aliens: Colonel Marines.
Dark Souls II, brings the same formula that its predecessors (Darks Souls, Demon Souls) have used to gain a strong following amongst those looking for a game that offers death at every step.
Unsurprisingly it features in this list as Souls games have been well received by people looking for a game that challenges them and the series provides that and provides it in an attractive package.
Dark Souls joins 2 others in the 1st Runner up position with its well-known and now familiar formula perhaps being the reason it just misses out on the top spot.
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes arrived to give fans a little taste of what to expect in the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pains. While it’s only a little look into what the main entry into the series will provide it’s a promising taste giving players a large area and the freedom to tackle the mission however they like with the game providing many different approaches.
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is well put together package albeit a small one which is probably what costs it top spot here but it shows that Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pains will be fighting for the top spot the year it releases.
Game Of The Year - Dragon Age: Inquisition
Dragon Age: Inquisition had its work cut out for it after Dragon Age 2 soured many fans on the series but Bioware has managed to bring those fans back and satisfy them with Dragon Age: Inquisition launching to many favourable reviews from critics and players alike.
Giving players plenty of distractions to keep them off the main story and successfully drawing players back into the Dragon Age universe it is no surprise Dragon Age: Inquisition has been voted GoodGame's GOTY 2014.
